Pretty good apt, TERRIBLE neighborhood

I've lived at Ventana about 1 1/2 years now and I'm fairly pleased with the apt/building. It's nothing special but the concrete walls are nice for keeping noise out.
However, lately the neighborhood has gotten terrible. I've been asked for money on the street outside my building every day for the last 13 days. Ridiculous. Also, it got really exciting last week when I witnessed an attempted car jacking about 10 feet from the building. The latest news is a friend getting held up at gunpoint last week across the street from the apt coming home from the metro rail.
These are SERIOUS problems that I would not walk into if I were you. Don't live here! My lease ends in a few months and I can't wait to move out! This neighborhood SUCKS!

In my opinion, as a former renter at Ventana, Midtown will never live up to the hype. There are too many homeless shelters in one small area, and the nearby bus depot drops off hardened criminals every week.
Avoid Midtown, for your own safety!
