We moved to the Versailles Park because my wife was starting her 2-year graduate study at UH. One year completed, one more to go! Overall, the experience has been OK, but would recommend it only if you have to live in the Medical Center area. It is one of the better apartments in the Medical Center area, but dont get your hopes too high.

Pros: Nice apartment, wife loves the big bedroom. Garden tub in bathroom, beautiful landscaping, washer and dryer in apartment, nice pool and ample parking space (all covered). Close to downtown and UH. Staff has been courteous and polite.

Cons: Old applicances (the microwave is tiny!) and frequent maintenance issues. The carpet in our apartment sheds a lot. We have had 3 or 4 false fire alarms, one at 5:30 am. One of our neighbors had his car broken into. Sometimes, my neighbor takes a 20-min shower after midnight and it wakes me up everytime. It is not a very safe apartment, but safer than other apartments in the same area.

The problem is not so much with the apartment as it is with the run-down area it is located in (inside 610 loop). We lived on the Eldridge Pkwy previously and dont like the old buildings, bumpy roads and shop windows reinforced with steel bars in this area. The area in general seems unsafe and there are plenty of homeless people, beggars and shady characters roaming around on streets (especially on the east side of 288 towards UH). Also add irresponsible drivers in old broken down cars.

We wont be renewing our lease and will move out when my wife graduates.
