After living here for the last three years, we're finally moving out.
I'm really looking forward to leaving this place.
Here's a list of things that happened to us during our stay here:
1. We were evicted on the first month because we didn't pay a $9.00 electric bill on the day we moved in. We were told initially that we could include it with our first month's rent but that was incorrect. They didn't call us or give us any notice, they just evicted us. We managed to get in to the office at the very last minute to pay it, so that we got to keep our apartment.
2. Due to a computer error (on their part) they proceeded to evict us every month for about half a year because someone in a different apartment didn't pay some bill. The computer told them to evict us, so again, without even a phone call they put a notice on our door.
3. In response to #1 & #2, we asked if there was a problem, could they call us and not just put a notice of eviction on our door' We only asked because as the rent is almost a thousand dollars a month, we expected to be treated better than a cash per hour motel room. We were informed that the computer decides who gets notices and that they don't check it for accuracy either. It is apparently to much trouble.
4. The covered parking (which we have to pay for, no assigned parking is included with rent) fell on the cars during Ike. The only area that didn't fall' The ones near the front with the crossbraces. All of the covered parking in the rear of the complex doesn't have braces, so is a hazard during severe weather. Even after all of the sections had some level of failure (except the braced front), it was returned to its original design.
5. The management goes out of their way....to help theirselves. Get the wrong person when you walk in and you can expect long sighs and rolled eyes. Don't expect any real help with anything unless they can assign a maintenance person to do it. Seriously, look at #2 again!
6. Pet policy allows 'big' dogs but prohibits aggressive breeds. Despite this, we see people walking boxers and pit bulls.
7. We're moving out due to the crime going up (our neighbor has had both her apt and her car broken into) and yet they are unwilling to negotiate the lease. We only have 4 months to go on it but its not worth it to them to let us out a bit early. This just goes to show you that three years of loyalty to them mean nothing.
8. The night drop box was blocked (intentionally) by them for several months, meaning that you had to drop off rent in person during office hours or give them a check in advance (not that I'd trust them with a post dated check for a dollar!). They did not have anyone come in early or stay late to accept payments.
Honestly it boils down to safety & customer service. As the complex becomes more dangerous and the management becomes less willing, it makes it time to get out while you can.

Aside from everything but the last part of #8, I would agree. This is how most commercial properties are ran (it's all about business, not employees nor clients). As for early and late office hours, they are open until 6 pm and on weekends. One day a week could be scheduled to take payments and maintenance calls before 9 am. This would help.
