Honestly, I have lived in apartments since 1997 and this rates as the worst apartment experience of my life.
I lived here several years before and had some problems with waterleaks and even mold. I thought I just had bad luck or was in a bad building. About 18 months ago I needed to move to this side of town and since the prices were so good, I thought I would give them a try.
In my previous apartment, I had two waterleaks and a round of black mold. This time, we are on our third water leak and the air conditioning ducts are contaminated with black mold. The buildings are 30 years old and the duct work is basically raw fiberglass inside the ducts. It is a great place for mold to breed and once contaminated or frequently damp, black mold is here to stay. Additionally, the roofs have not been replaced in 30 years and are a series of failing patches. With my latest incident it has been over two weeks and they still have not fixed the leak. Incidentally, this is my third leak in less than a year. My apartment literally makes me ill and I become congested and have asthma as soon as I go inside.
Here is where it good. Although I am suffering severely and there is obviously mold in the ducts, they vacuum them out and say they have fixed the problem. I have been exposed to toxic mold for months now and I am in the process of getting out for the sake of my health. They refuse to release me from my contract despite the ramifications to my health. Sweet huh' If you live here..you had better take the time to look in your ducts.
The grounds are poorly kept, there is rotting wood all over the complex, and the repair guys have repeatedly left a mess when they have worked in my apartment. They don't enforce the pet size rule or enforce the rule of owners picking up after their pets. Walk in any grass in the complex with great care. The smell in certain areas is a real treat.
The staff is mostly inexperienced and little more than leasing agents. Mostly very young and attractive.
My garage door has been broken since the first of the month and another door in the garage has been broken for 6 weeks or longer. In addition, the fence that helps keep criminals out of the complex was damaged almost two months ago and it has still not been repaired. I was told by a staff member that the maintenance crew was cut in half and some repairs take so long because they have not paid their vendors and repair companies. The Richdale Group simply takes money out and seems to put nothing back into the complex. I have never seen a place go so far down in such a short time (about 5 years). The parking lot is in terribly shape and recently they seem to let virtually anyone move in here. Crime has shot up, vandalism, breaking into cars, a peeping tom. Gee, you wonder if that 40 feet of missing fence has anything to do with it' The general area has also declined greatly. A few months ago there was a 15 year old boy gunned down just outside the complex. Oh, don't bother turning on your own music, you will get plenty from the parking lot. You are in luck if you like other people's bass.
I can only describe my whole experience here as an apartment living nightmare. If you are thinking about living here....RUN!

They don't enforce the pet size rule because there isn't one. Check before you complain.

Well maybe there is not pet rule, but it is against the law to not clean up after your pet, regardless of the size. There are many responsible pet owners but there are many more who are not. The smell of pet waste is quite the treat in various high traffic areas in this complex
