Close to campus, reasonable apartments

This was my first apartment experience. The regular office staff was always nice and helpful. Maintenance was quick to repair any problems we had. I lived near the offices before they built their new office. The unit closest to the HKC on the SHSU campus. I loved being close enough to campus that I did not have to try to find parking every day.
The unit itself is old, older than bowers stadium. Considering cost and location were the reasons I picked this complex, age was not so much of an issue. The apartment itself was pretty clean, many layers of paint. The kitchen and the bathroom could use a little updating. The counter tops in the 2 bedroom loft apartment (what I had) were nice (including the bar as counter top area).
I had the bedroom and the privacy. My roommate had the loft which was private but you could hear everything. If I wanted to watch tv in the living room I needed to make sure it was ok with him so I would not disturb him. My room did not have any windows so the only natural light came from the doorway and that was very limited. When I decided to move out I made sure to find an apartment that had windows in the bedroom. It was nice to be able to sleep in late if I needed to but there is something depressing about a bedroom that is always dark.
Being so close to the campus there is a lot of noise sometimes. The bedroom was really quiet but the person living in the loft may have a hard time sleeping some nights. The closet in the bedroom was much larger than the closet I had at home but the closet in the loft was rather small. The bathroom is kind of small and there is practically no counter top in the bathroom. Very little storage in the kitchen and bathroom areas.
There are three pools on the property. Two of the pools were nice while I was living there and I felt like I was the only person to use them most of the time. The third pool always looked dirty from the pine trees that are so close to it. The laundry room closest to my apartment was torn down to make room for the new offices so for the last few years I had to drive to other laundry facility. Now that the new office is in place that should not be a problem to new residence.
Parking was sometimes a problem. There is just not enough sometimes.
Overall, I would recommend these units to a couple of college students who wanted to be close to campus and not pay a bundle. They are not super apartments but they are not bad for a first time experience. The staff is friendly and they really made me feel at home the 4 years I stayed there.
