Overall I'm satisfied with my stay at Valley Oaks in Hurst, TX. My compliments go to large square footages (which are more common in older apartments such as these), large kitchen with lots of cupboard space, and good neighbors. Drawbacks include poor insulation, slightly-low water pressure, and staff that tries, but sometimes lacks professionalism.
I forget to pay my rent in January. On the 6th of the month, after receiving a reminder, I go to pay it but forget that late rent has to be paid with a money order or cashier's check. I tell the young man at the office I will be back later with payment(because I have to wait for my wife to return home from work with our car so we can go to the bank). A couple hours later, before my wife returns home, I get a knock at the door. I open it to see a lady from the office and the maintenance man(her bodyguard). She hands me a "NOTICE TO VACATE FOR NONPAYMENT OF RENT". I explain to her about my previous conversation with the other office worker and she says ok. Upon further reading of the letter I just received, I realize it demands me to vacate within 72 hours with no mention of possibility of paying late rent. I ask her if we can continue living here. She says I can if we pay. I was in shock and a little upset. The lack of communication and consideration was offensive to me, especially the legalistic vacate notice.
Many of the memos and letters I received from the office have been plagued with typos, such as the lease renewal letter with incorrect dollar amounts.
Nonetheless, things went smoothly and the problems were only a few. If it wasn't for needing to be closer to school, I would renew my lease here.
