The parking at Grand Venetian is absolutely HORRIBLE! The apartments sit between McArthur and Walnut Hill Lane and I have had to park my car at the entrance on Walnut Hill Ln and walk the entire length of the complex to my apartment, which sits close to McArthur at the other end of Grand Venetian's huge apartment complex.(Not well lighted I might add). On grocery day or when I pick up my cleaning I have to pull up in front of my building, off-load, then go hunting for a place to park. There are NO assigned parking spaces. To get an assigned parking space you must pay an additional $25.00 per month on top of the already expensive rental rate to get one.
Question: Can I afford the $25.00 parking bill' Yes, but I refuse on principle. For the rent that I am paying I should have access to parking. This is the ONLY apartment complex I have ever lived in, where parking spaces are not assigned.
Question: Have I ever brought this up with management' Yes. I was told that there is nothing they can do because, according to the young lady I spoke to "we cannot stop people from having their friends over" She also said "If you do not want to walk to your apartment you can pay for covered parking." That conversation ended badly.
Point: It seems to me that if you own / manage/ operate a gated apartment community with controlled access (Keep in mind you cannot park on the public streets surrounding the apartment complex...this ain't New York) or any apartment community for that matter and I am your paying tenant, with a signed lease, I should have a reasonable expectation to have adequate access to parking.
If you lead an active lifestyle this is not the place for you. There are no bike trails, walking trails, or parks in the immediate vicinity of the complex. The onsite Gym is so-so. I have opted for a private Gym membership. There is a Pool, but you will not be calling your roomies from college to brag about how cool it is.
Management talks about Canal views. The view actually looks out onto Texas Highway 114 and to the back of a retail center / strip-mall.
It is fair to ask why I moved in' The answer is that Grand Venetian is 11 minutes away from my office, the apartment is spacious, and I never bothered to ask about parking. I have never had to deal with parking concerns before. Any convenience to my office pales in comparison to this aggravation. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT 3 months to be over! GOOD RIDDANCE! will be the understatement of the year.

I lived there for over a year... trust me when I say Parking is NOT the only problem there. Parking far away probably wouldn't be such a big deal if the community was actually well lit at night. It is dangerous to be walking alone to your building at night... by yourself.
