No place to raise a family

When we first moved in the office staff was wonderful. They helped us find out that there were other people in the area with our same name that had skipped out on leases and this was causing our problems at other apartments. Unfortunately we had to lease quickly and ended up on the 3rd floor with 3 children. We were allowed to rent the "show model" with new flooring (the carpet was new, but the "new" vinyl in the kitchen and baths were just painted with latex paint which came off when mopped). We were promised that when another apartment opened up with w/d hook-ups and a balcony that we would be allowed to move.
We were informed at the end of our lease that we would no longer be allowed to live in the complex because we had 3 children and the new "resident rules" would no longer allow us to reside in the complex- but we were welcome to stay on the 3rd floor and our rent would be raised $150 per month if we chose to stay.
We had no screens on the windows, the lock was broken on the window of our boys' room which opened to the walk way and this was never fixed (a broom stick was left in the window which our 8 year old used to bust his brother in the head). The maintance people were in our apartment without permission or any form of notification and they broke dishes and a canister in the kitchen and helped themselves to snacks. Our cookies would disappear from the cookie jar and half a bag of Halloween candy I had purchase for school diappeared as well as Cokes from the frig. We found the shards of glass under the cabinet and frig and candy wrappers on the stairs outside the apartment- but the trash bag was changed and our trash was always removed from the apartment! I thought I was going nuts because my dishes were disappearing and my husband kept saying that I must be leaving them in the car or at work (he couldn't justify the canister especially after the pieces were found under the frig). I new it couldn't be kids because they would never think to clean up broken glass or change out the trash bag after removing the evidence.
We had to purchase room darkening drapes because the parking lot light glared in our bedroom window, but the parking area outside our stairs was always dark. Our cars were broken into, our new mini van was hit in the parking lot 3 times- all on nights of heavy partying in the complex and I felt very uncomfortable coming home after dark because the parking spaces were always full and the distance to the lighted stairs was way too far with bags of groceries or a computer. Our boys had a total of 6 bicycles stolen even being chained under the stairwells- what small child carries bolt cutters'
My husband and I were both teachers and to be told that the apartment complex would no longer allow us to reside in the complex because of HUD laws (which we pointed out was untrue) they admitted that the new management and "resident association" had voted not to rent to families with more than 2 children. It infuriated me to see the class of people that began moving in during our last 6 weeks in the complex.
This is not a family friendly complex. It may be ok for those just starting out- but don't count on keeping anything nice because you won't have it or it will be damaged beyond belief before your lease is up. 3mPoZ6gGN6wTPgNi4L2C
