Not that bad

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2008

I lived at chaparral creek for just over 4 years. It has good points and bad. Its in a relatively safe area. There is lots of stuff nearby. And it takes only about 15 minutes to drive to downtown Dallas. Its been there a long time, so with that you have beautiful, mature trees and overall nice landscaping, but it also means the apartments are older. Sometimes this is nice because they have a lot of character, but in this case there is not much. The appliances are all new. Things broke frequently, but the management was always polite and got the problems fixed right away. It is very pet friendly. However, there is always dog poop all over the grass.
One of the best things was that if you got an apartment without washer dryer hook ups they would provide you with free laundry service for a year. You could drop off 3 loads a week at a laundry service center on property, pick it up the same day, cleaned and folded perfectly. We were even able to negotiate this into our lease contract and got it for all 4 years!
The insulation in our home was terrible, and whether it was AC or Heat it went right out the window because they did not close all the way. I don't think there is anything to do about it, except rebuild, because the house was literally crooked (Dr. Seuss Style). Irving is one of the few areas in DFW where there are hills, and it appears that the construction team did not account for settling. Our electric bill each month in the winter and summer was close to 400 dollars.
The management changed numerous times while we were living there and by the time we left there was only one person who worked there the whole time we lived there (a maintenance worker). The maintenance guys were great and did everything they could to fix problems.
When we moved in it was a locally owned apartment complex. About 1-2 years ago they were bough by Trimarch Management. After that the quality of everything went down, the courtesy of the office staff decreased, and they also started renting to many questionable people. I am pretty sure we had an illegal immigration scheme going on next door, but they only stayed for about 3 months, we also at one point had some neighbors who screamed and fought all the time (but they too only lasted about 3 months). The walls are thin, so when nonsense is going on you can hear it! We had neighbors who sat on our steps, and even our cars! and drank beer every Friday, instead of staying in their home or using their patio.
When we moved out they took almost our whole deposit, and actually bothered to send us a check for 2 dollars and some change. They denied we ever paid a pet deposit (even though the management knew we had a pet the whole time, and the maintenance guys would always play with our cat when they came over). We were basically shorted close to 200 dollars. However, I am sure most apartments will take every last cent they can from you.
We stayed for so long because the location was convenient and it was not that bad. AND moving is a pain in the butt. But I would not recommend this place, and I would not live there again.
