Bad Management, Bad Service, Bad Feelings

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2007

I just moved from Gardens at VR. I moved into AMLI at VR in 2003. I had a few problems with AMLI, but NOTHING compared to the people who bought the property. I have read some of the reviews and agree with everything I've read so far. Electric bills were outrageous and I am sure it was because the equipment wasn't maintained. The maintenance service was probably the poorest I have ever experienced. A heat sensor alarm for my building malfunctioned in late December/early January 2007. I called every few days complaining as the alarm beeped outside my bedroom window and a light flashed incessantly....IT TOOK them SIX (yes, 6) months to have this repaired. Not only was it a nuisance to me, it was a potential danger to the entire building. The management (and I use that term loosely) never seemed concerned one way or the other. At one point, I had a broken shelf over the veggie drawers in my fridge. It took them over a month to replace one shelf. Now I receive a call today telling me about all sorts of "rules" I broke upon moving out, even though I gave my notice in the required 60 days and paid through the end of the month rather than mid month. Now they want to charge me a reletting fee. I NEVER was able to get in touch with the "manager" after it became Gardens at VR. The "assistant manager" and other office staff always said manager was "on the phone", "out of the office", "not available right now". Personally I don't think there WAS a manager. If there had been, surely he/she didn't think that customer service was of much importance as there was only one girl in the office who was polite. The assistant manager would tell you one thing one minute and turn around and tell you something entirely different the next. She should have been fired long ago. She certainly is not an asset to the complex. I admit that my apartment needed work when I moved out. I had pets and one was old and sick a lot. I expected they keep any deposit...and as I had been in the apartment for 2.5 years, I expected they would be decent enough to paint and change the carpet anyway. They are trying to charge me for any little thing they can think of....even cleaning the ceiling fans.....one of which I put in myself and purchased myself which is worth 3 times more than the piece of poop fans they put in the apts. There were numerous vandalisms on my side of the property as a section 8 housing apartments backed up to the property. At one point, we had a loaded condom thrown on our car. Another time when I was taking trash out, a car from the next apartments came by and threw a loaded fast-food coke cup at me. Rocks were thrown at my door which caused dents in a metal door. The "management" never cared about this at all. All they wanted was their rent and to do nothing about any maintenance issues that they could get away without doing. My advice.....stay away.
