Overall a good place to live, but probably below the stardards of Las Colinas

I lived at Jefferson Creek Apartment for 2 years. Being in Las Colinas, I had fairly high expectations for Jefferson Creek Apartments. Overall, I believe Jefferson Creek was a nice place to live and the only reason I moved was because I got another job and had to move. Below, I list the pros, cons and individual negative instances I had while staying at Jefferson Creek.

POSITIVES:

Creek View: For an extra price, Jefferson Creek Apartments offers a Creek View, which is very scenic and and provides a very relaxing atmosphere.

Parking: I know others have complained, but I have never had an issue with the parking. I lived in the back and I used the same parking spot. I work 7-4 PM, so that may explain why parking was not an issue for me. However, I worked out quite a bit and even when coming home at 6 PM or so, I never had any issues.

Location: I think one of the best benefits to living at Jefferson Creek is the location. It is surrounded by a ton of highways and main streets that makes getting around very convenient. You have Highway 114 and 183 to South, George W. Bush Turnpike to West and Highat 635 to the North. Also, the apartments are located on MacArthur and Royal Lane. MacArthur is a major road and Royal Lane has alot parks and a Golf Course. Campion Trail is located a few miles from Jefferson Creek and I went there for biking and running.

Maintenance: The maintenance staff was always quick to take care of any issues that I had.

Helpful Staff: Even though I sometimes had issues with some of the inaccurate information the staff would give, they were always courteous and generally had your interest in mind with regards to getting a question answered.

Amenities: Jefferson Creek allows you to pay all of your builds online and they have trash pickus on Monday, Wednsdays and Fridays. Now, this may not seem like a huge deal, but the apartment complex I live in now doesn't have any of these amenities and they are surely missed.

NEGATIVES:

Location: Now, I had to put this as a negative as well. Jefferson Creek is located on the corner of MacArthur and Royal Lane and during rush hour, this intersection is very busy and extremely noisy.

Thin Walls: The walls at Jefferson Creek seem to be very thin and the result is that you can hear just about everything your neighbors are doing.

Rent Increases: Everytime I renewed my lease, there was a rent increase. I believe Jefferson Creek artificially lowers the price of their apartments and slowly increase the price to get to Market Value each time you renew. Alot of apartments tend to do this but it is a negative.

Trash: I had to list this as a negative because quite a few residents take advantage of trash pickup and the staff poorly enforces the rules. Residents will leave their trash out a day before pickup day. Residents will show a lack of awareness and put trash out on holidays and sometimes it will sit out there for days.

Negative Incidents:

Car hit: One time an individual hit my car, knocked it about two parking spaces over and pretty much took off. Two individuals witnessed the incident and gave a detailed description of what the person looked like. Even though the Office Staff's hands were probably tied, I felt they were uncooperative in trying to help me find out who the individual was.

Radio Stolen: A few months before I moved out, my car radio was stolen and windows busted. My neighbor's car was also vandalized and personal belonging removed.

Buying out Lease: I had to buy out my lease because I got another job in another city. Over the course of 3 days, when discussing the amount I had to pay to buyout my lease, the amount would change 3 times. When I first spoke with the member of the staff, I was told it was a certain amount and we signed an agreement. A day later, while at work I was contacted and told that there was a mistake and that the amount was higher. Later in the same day, I was contacted again and told that the amount was different and of course, higher. Even though I had the original contract, which was decidedly less, I decided not to pursue a fight because it just wasn't worth it monetary-wise.

Deposit: I waited about 2 weeks to inquire about my apartment deposit. I was told by a member of the staff that it would be best to wait another month. After the month had passed, I called the same staff member and was told that since I had bought my lease out, they wait until the original lease is up to walk through the apartment. Now, I knew this was inaccurate information because I had already done a walkthrough and I find it hard to believe that they let that apartment go empty (in my case several months) until the original lease comes up. A few days later, I decided to speak with an assistant manager and this person told me the information was incorrect and said I wasn't getting a deposit back because my refridgerator had to be cleaned and the last water bill is always deducted. Now, when I walked through the apartment with a member of the staff, I was told there were no issues. Also, a few weeks after I moved out, I received a water bill in the mail and I called a member of the staff and that person told me that it was the final water bill. I don't think it is a big deal but I believe Jefferson Creek, along with many apartments have no intention of giving back a deposit.
