Where to start. I originally stumbled on here months ago and saw a boatload of bad reviews and with shock thought, "HOW COULD THEY!'!'". I even wrote a GREAT review that people assumed management wrote. Well I come now a fool, eating my own words. We have been here going on our 4rd year. "Why have we been here this long if we hate it THIS much'" you may ask. At 1st the place was great. We paid a very reasonable price for a den layout that, at the time, was great. Management was ok. I had a few run ins such as being locked out of my freshly changed locked apartment and didnt get my keys until 2 am. Anyone with children would agree that waiting outside your apartment for 8 hours wont work. Luckily for me the kitchen window never would lock well and I managed to get in just fine. So I had one problem, no big deal. We signed on for a 3rd lease and moved into a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom. Our rent went up significantly but I figured it was worth it because this place cared about their tenets. WRONG!
Within our first month we revived a bill for counter tops that we had asked to be replaced upon the signing of our first lease (they were never even done), carpets that were dirty & stained upon moving in, holes that I dont believe ever existed, and lord knows what else. Of course I called to get a resolution and was told someone would get back with me. Someone DID get back with me in the form of a collections department. The number on the letter... DOESNT EVEN WORK! When I finally get a working number I am told I would get a call back later. She called back later all right... while I was working! In between then we have had a neighbor move out and perhaps stole a refrigerator (which I am convinced was a lie) and didnt turn off the water valve. Water came in and warped the baseboard, stunk up the carpets, and ruined some schoolbooks I had lying on floor. Maintenance came over pretty fast, by fast I mean faster then normal. They scheduled someone to remove the water and replace the boards. 3 days later, all the while we slept in another room, someone came to clean out the water and tracked mud all over our carpets. Never replacing the boards. I called and complained and was told someone would come out to do this. After call number 3 with no resolution I took matters into my own hands and nailed the damn thing into the wall myself. Im sure I will see the bill for that when I move out. I had to rent a seam cleaner to clean the carpets myself which I STILL couldnt get clean. Another bill for me, I"m sure. I don"t even want to go into details on how many times I called someone to come out and stop the water from leaking out of the light fixtures in the bathroom ceiling!!!! So we get a notice along with our handy dandy monthly newsletter that serves no purpose what so ever, stating that they are going to be "remodeling" the apartments and ask that we decide to either move into another, already "remodeled" apartment, sign another lease which puts off the decision making one more lease term, or simply taking a hike. Oh and that "due to "remolding" costs your rent will be increasing to perhaps market value". Ok, I wanted to see just what was SOOOO worth the raise in rent and asked to see a freshly "remolded" apartment. The lady who showed it was great. She must be new, stupidly is contagious. The apartment was mediocre. The changes were nice but not enough to expect the asking market price. This place is high priced ghetto. And by ghetto I mean, people will walk over from across the street to use your pool and stay until 2 am making noise and having sex in your pool. I called the cops, they never showed. Not the apartments fault, sure but we were told a year ago that something was going to be done about this problem. In the mean time I get to deal with these same said kids calling me vulgar names as I head to the pool and/or mail box. I have never in my life paid so much to have so little in regards to a roof over my head AND respect. If you think being a "royal tenant" is enough, think again.
All this and so, SO much more is why I started looking elsewhere. Of course when I finally find a place that charges the same as "market value" and offers things like free yoga and kick boxing, more then 2 pools, friendly management, stone flooring, roomy layouts, garden tubs, and MORE I couldnt get it. WHY!'!'!' Oh because I still have FEES I havent paid HERE! Dear God! I cant even escape THIS hellhole! I call to speak to the "girl" (for lack of mature words) to get some resolution and I get spoken to like I was a child because it was so hard for her to do her job in the first place. I finally get a number to call (because its out of their hands now) and they show nothing on file for me. I call the Oaks again. She tells me that I can pay the amount in the office but because its been so long she cant remove any bogus charges. I ask, again, for another number and she claims that she has no other number for me to call. OH BUT I CAN PAY IN THE OFFICE'!'!' This makes no sense to me and in tears, I ask my husband to go in and see what he can do. He was scheduled an appointment to see her because she is just so busy doing her job. That in itself a joke.
There are some nice people here, yes. I dont know where they have gone or if they are outnumbered by completely incompetent morons but this place just isnt worth the head and heart ache I have endured. I have found multiple places that charge the same and offer so very much more. Not being able to leave this place to get better adds insult to injury but I would much rather move in with my in-laws come moving time then sign another lease with this place which is what I am fully prepared to do. It looks great from a far but heed my warning: GO ELSEWHERE! Keep looking for better because it exists and considering the level this place is at, you dont have to look far. Poor management, poor apartments, unfair pricing, unfair treatment, tons of noise, people who dont clean up after their pets, water being turned off due to "shifting soils" and so much more. Paying my fee might just very well be worth the price to escape. Don't make the same mistakes we have. KEEP LOOKING!
