I find it very curious that the manager raves about his place but doesn't address all of the complaints about deposits being confiscated and the end of a lease. Talking to current residents as he suggests would hardly adress this - would it' As I am looking for a place to rent in the next couple of weeks, looks like this is one to avoid.

Welcome to Rancho Mirage .... looks like this is a custom. Manager's best way to address a situation is to avoid it.
