Please, please, please look elsewhere. If this review saves one prospective tenant their time and money, then it will have been well worth my time to write, and my stay at the Rock Island Apartments will not have been in vain. I currently reside in these apartments and I can't wait until my lease is up. So keep in mind that as of 2003, everything I write here is current.
First of all, the management and staff will dodge you at all costs to avoid repairs. I'm telling you these people are harder to catch than Osama Bin Laden. The manager, Sherry Downing, manages the Rock Island Apartments and the Hidden Village Apartments. Take it from me, if you call either office to speak with her she will undoubtedly be at the "other property" at the time. I'm beginning to wonder if she even exists.
The first "incident" happened when I had to request maintenance for a leaking pipe in the kitchen. One week passed and no one came so I called again. By now it had leaked into the living room and was showing as a small wet spot on the carpet. No one came during the day, so that night I called it in as an emergency and still no one came. By the next morning the spot had become a marsh, and had destroyed half the carpeting. My husband and I had to move all of our electronics (computer, stereo etc.) and all of the furniture to one side of the room. We lived like that for another week and a half. They finally sent in some of the maintenance staff and had the carpet cleaned. CLEANED, mind you, not replaced.
As of today, it's been two weeks since I requested maintenance to fix our cooling system. Miss Downing's staff is claiming that "management" is refusing the repair stating that they don't have to buy freon until the temp outside reaches 90 degrees. -_- Today's high was ONLY 81. If I use my oven or stove-top the temperature INSIDE the apartment surely rivals that of hell. There are no screens on the windows, so if I open them it's sure to invite bugs and the unwanted noise from the unsavory characters who sit outside yelling, drinking, smoking and playing music until all hours of the night. But who do I complain to' The manager who doesn't exist' Anyway, the mention of bugs brings me to yet another reason you should keep your money...NO PEST CONTROL. Apparently the exterminators are related to the manager for they too are invisible. Thinking of all this just makes me more upset by the minute. I just wish that someone, anyone would have warned me before I turned over my hard earned money for this dump. I hope this review gives you the insight that I wish i'd gotten.
