SECTION 8

I do not live here, I live in the Camden Cimarron apartments a few blocks down. The apartment I live in is nice, and most certainly not Section 8, but we live close enough to this complex to be affected by it. Here is a summary of our unfortunate experience:
About 3 months ago my boyfriend was headed to the store, and took the road that passes by the front of the Valley Trails. It was night time, and he was driving along when he heard a very loud "BANG", followed very quickly by two more "BANG" "BANG"s. He initially thought he make have run something over, but looked toward the apartment complex to see several teenagers hauling butt away from the scene of the crime. He turned around and headed back home to assess the damage and call the police. When the police came they said they had been called several times by drivers that had experienced similar situations. Apparently, little kids from the complex were hiding out and when a car drove by they would throw softball sized rocks at it. VERY VERY DANGEROUS!!!! Thank goodness no-one was seriously injured (to my knowledge) or even killed by them crashing through the window as they drove down the road. Anywhoo.. the damage to the car was very noticeable, and the cop said that the complex is a major issue, and they are there almost every night for one thing or another. We were surprised to hear this, given that it is Valley Ranch, but he followed that by telling us the complex is Section 8. We were shocked. Long story short, the police officer said they were having a hard time catching the kids because they would run back into their apartment whenever they approached. So there wasn't really much they could do, and that the problem starts with the parents.
Shouldn't they make that common knowledge' I most certainly would not have moved into the complex I am in now if I knew that one in such close proximity was Section 8. I posted this story for anyone thinking of moving here that is not knowledgeable about the housing status there. You have been warned.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH SECTION 8. LIKE THE OFFICER STaTED IT STARTS WITH THE PARENTS. I LIVED IN IRVING FOR ABOUT 6 YEARS AND THIS IS THE FIRST I HEARD OF SECTION 8. ITS REALLY NOT HOUSING THATS CAUSING THE PROBLEM ITS THE BAD ASS KIDS WITH PARENTS WHO PROBABLY DOESNT KNOW THAT THEY ARE DOING IT.

I agree with the statement made above, section 8 is not bad it is the people with no home training or values or morals and their families that give it a bad name. I have a section 8 voucher and will be moving to Valley Trails, i will call the police at the drop of a dime to clean up the complex and will talk to management as often as possible. For all of you well to do people, section 8 is a stepping stone and it is a shame that poor people make it a life long situation. But, don't judge the rest of use because of a few bad apples. It would be like us saying all white people are racist. If the neighborhood got together to help end the nonsense it would do use all some good. Don't complain about it do something about!!!!!

I don't know about Section 8 or anything, but those kids are BAD! I live in the complex next to Valley Trails and I've had to place my entire windshield because the little kids through huge brick sides rocks over the fence at the cars. I've also heard gunshots over there too. That place seems pretty bad and I've noticed that the police are often just stationed over there in the parking lot. I almost moved over there, too...Although, I must admit that I don't think all the tenants are bad and neither are all the kids. I've had several pleasant conversations with tenants over there. It's just the bad seeds that make it hard for everyone.

actually I do remember that incident because the police questioned me and my husband as we drove into valley trails.
FYI valley trails is not Section 8, because I pay regular market rent to live in valley trails, however 20% of the apartments are rented to Section 8 tenants. I actually checked into that situation and the teens who tossed the rocks, majority of them did not live on the complex. I understand how you feel, but also keep in mind you can't label a person because of what they have. Section 8 does not mean "worse", just means discounted government subsidised rent. However it is always the same children cause all the problems on the complex and they give it a bad rep. I'm sorry for what your boyfriend had to encounter.

Yeah I agree with realdealisajoke on this...as I live in Camden Cimarron also. I regularly jog around the area and in the park. I'm always hesitant to even run on the sidewalks that border this complex. I've seen Irving PD patrol cars go in and out of that complex a lot... I don't mean to sound elitist or snobby but...that place is a slum.

You people are ignorant, allpraise has a VERY good point. Every complex has a handful of delinquents. Weather it maybe the wealthiest, or the lest fortunate.

those of you who live in valley trails, honestly is it safe for a single mother of a three year old and a five month old. Would it be safe for a caucasion women to take her white boy and black infant girl on a walk through the place to get to the rec center or library? thanks
