Glad I'm not there anymore

Since all of the reviews have been positive, I thought you should see another opinion. I spent 6 months at Glen Hollow and was very happy to leave.
The staff was fairly friendly and maintenance did a good job of fixing things--the problem was that things broke ALL THE TIME. The A/C went out at least once a month (which is not good during August in East Texas. There was something wrong with the ventilation system--our neighbors smoked and our apartment reeked of cigarette smoke.
The apartment was on a slant, the rooms were all painted clinical white, and its almost as if there's absolutely no insulation anywhere. It was very hard to make it feel like home.
The facilities were okay, but the stairs were very very slippery and narrow which made for a fun day in December. Would it kill them to install some anti-slip mats'
Also, if you do decide to move in--Go for Satellite service and not Kilgore Cable. Glen Hollow has a contract with Kilgore Cable and KC screws you more than a big guy named Teddy in Federal Prison. I'd suggest leaching internet off of a neighbor who doesn't password protect if you need it.
Once again--I'd only recommend this place if you MUST live in Kilgore and can't afford any better. I know that Dr. Roberts (the local eye doctor) has some duplexes in close proximity to Glen Hollow that are lightyears ahead of anything you can get a GH. (They're a little pricey, but a better option for a family).
Good luck.

Lived here?

I almost completely agree with this statement. I have lived here at GH for over a year. I am getting ready to move and I am thankful. However the problems here are real, the fact of the matter is that GH is the better of the two "clean" options in Kilgore. The complex across the street is clean but the sq ft is so much smaller. When I moved in, I said something about the slant issue. The only thing that sits against the wall in my living room is the couch and love seat. I was told that the reason for the unlevelness is due to the foam under the carpet being doubled over next to the wall. Silly reason but thats what I was given. The smoke issue is real. I also have that experience. Its not a good smell first thing in the morning. The flooring is cracked under the carpet. It sounds like clat pots breaking when you walk. The number one thing I HATE about the apartment is the electric bill in the summer. 200.00 last year. There is no reason for that. They have old ac units and they sit on the roof. I have done everything the manager told me to do... Heavy curtains over windows, bamboo shades outside sliding windows. Yet my ac runs 24 hrs per day in the summer. and i keep it set at like 72. I keep my ceiling fans going and I even have little fans. Nothing works. I have chosen my new apartment carefully. Over all I agree. Unless you absolutley HAVE to live here, don't.... The staff is really nice though.

While I thank both respondents for their compliments on our staff and for their critiques of our community I must clear some things up.
1st of all we do not have and have never had a contract with anyone for cable service and most definitely not Kilgore Cable. The only Cable provider in Kilgore IS Kilgore Cable, maybe that is where you are confused.
We have had issues with the subfloor cracking during a residents stay but it has always been addressed. If it was not brought to my attention I cannot fix it. I do apologize if it did slip by however this did not make your apartment "slant".
As far as slippery steps in December, We havent had ice in Texas in several years. So I am not sure what slippery day in December you were talking about. We always put ice melt on our steps. We dont have anti-skid steps because of the part of the country we live in. Any apartment you live in is going to be like that.
Our AC units are on the roof so I am curious how anyone would know if one was old or not? If one goes out we always replace it immediately. We also had a unusually hot summer with several weeks of 102 degree days. Ac's will run constantly, mine at home runs constantly in this kind of weather-again I am not making excuses just stating facts. Depending on the size of your apartment and the number of ac units you have $200 is a reasonable electric bill.
Also we have just started painting our apartments with accent walls so no more clinical white.
Please keep in mind that we are 35 years old and we are some of the largest apartments in Kilgore. We offer a large size and we are slowly but surely updating as we can. I hope that in the future you will consider trying us again. If not it was nice having you as residents.
Thank you,
Manager
