Although my time at the University Squares was a little longer than I had hoped for, it was (is) the cheapest thing in town....FOR A GOOD REASON! Before I start the complaints, let me assure you that the maintenance man and the lady which takes care of the landscape are the nicest and most helpful people you will ever meet. Now, on with the buttchewing. The management sucks, not "sucks," but SUCKS!!! Don't dare be late on your rent by one minute or they will shut the door on your face and charge you 25 bucks plus 5 a day until it is brought in. One day, when the new and "improved" management took over, they failed to give any form of notice to anyone saying,"we may close at five, but we're lazy and turned off the computer at 4:30, so you have to be charged late fees even though we are right here in front of you..." AND STILL ON THE CLOCK!!! Duh...not the happiest time in my life. This brings to mind another problem with these people, THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EVERYBODY! They think that just because we are all "college Kids" that we are dumb, well maybe dumb for chosing the university squares. (story time) A friend of mine had a puppy and had paid, in full mind you, for his pet deposit. Come eight months later, the owner decides,"I lost the paperwork so maybe I'll charge him AGAIN since he probably lost his receipt by now." To make a long story short, keep every single receipt known to man when you move into this place, they find every single excuse to charge you extra for something. Oh yeah, BEWARE: Foreign students can't drive and may run into your apartment at night. This happened to my other friend (who will remain anonymous). Two foreign studets stupidly ran their car into her apartment and ran off and only came back when police found their plates still in the wall!!! Not to mention the management was going to make her and her roomates stay in the darn building because it was "liveable." And I an not even joking or overdoing this story, it's true. They were still going to make her and her roomates pay for rent even if they had to go somewhere else to sleep at night becaue um...there's a HOLE IN THE WALL! Her parents had to come down and to end that story, they finally were given an apartment room to stay in rent free.....yeah, after "lawyer" and "contract" and "court" were brought up. Oh yes, the foreign students. They can party like it's spring break....every night and it doesn't matter how many times you call the police, they argue back and turn the music back up as soon as the police leave. The Kingsville PD was very helpful and prompt when my girlfriend and I would call in. Now, as sad as this is, I have to mention it. Two foreign students unfortunately drowned in the pool at the squares, and there was no form of warning put up or yellow tape, nothing. This shows the lack of interest management has for their tenants. In conclusion (to my book), do not move here unless it is the only option available, actually, try to get a loan and get a dorm instead. I'd rather share a room with a complete stranger than move back to the university squares.
