Not fancy but a decent, safe place to live affordably

We're a family of 4 and we've lived here for 3 months now. Overall I'm pleased with the community.

LET'S START WITH THE CONS

I'm not sure why so many people feel negatively about living here. Maybe the brochure led them to think this is a fancy complex on the water' Yes, it is right on an inlet, but these apartments are not fancy. The units are fairly old. Some of the construction in my apartment is subpar; for instance, the cabinets are nearly falling apart, and the water faucets and light switches are not all straight. Little things like that.

There are occasional bugs. We've found a couple roaches. But where I moved from, we had scorpions, so I'll take roaches any day!

And, like any apartment, I can hear my upstairs neighbors walking around.

NOW THE PROS

If you're value-minded (read: a cheapskate) like me, this is a good place to consider. The rent is VERY reasonable for the area. The management checks all residents for criminal convictions, and no violent offenders are allowed to move in. As a result, there are no sex offenders here.

The pool is very nice and clean. Maintenance responds promptly to your calls, even after hours. The staff is courteous, I have had no problems with them at all.

As for parking ... sometimes I can find a spot near my apartment, sometimes I have to walk a ways. That can be a bummer when you're carrying babies and groceries. But the tradeoff is, I live away from the parking lot, behind a little courtyard with a nice shade tree. So if I have to walk a little ways to my door, that's fine.

As for the inlet, it's pretty cool. You can take a walk at sunset and feel the breeze. We like to fly kites in the grassy area by the pool (and there are lots of grassy areas, another plus).

Overall, this is a good place to live, and I feel like I've gotten more than my money's worth.
