Beware! / Thefts Happen, etc.

(See update at end of this post! Someone pretending to be a Wesley Oaks lawyer is e-mailing former residents or friends thereof with "nasty grams.")

The following accounts and comments are based upon the first-hand experiences of and observations by me and/or my friend who rented at WO Apartments, and are not, therefore "hearsay."

According to a League City police officer, the break-in of my friends Wesley Oaks apartment had to be made by a Wesley Oaks employee, since there was no forced entry: apparently and allegedly Wesley Oaks employees used their keys to enter my friends apartment and steal his 357 magnum hand gun, among other possessions.

My friend lived at Wesley Oaks apartments for about two years, up to the end of December 2003, but was allowed into the apartment the first week of January 2004 to move his furniture out. I sometimes visited there; I stayed there for a few days to a couple of weeks every so often.

Our first-hand experiences (we are witnesses to these things) were as follows:

The management at W.O. seldom repair anything. If they do, it takes (literally) months to over a year. We were not alone in this. Months go by before they get around to repairing broken dishwashers and so on.

Let me pause to say that I am very skeptical about the rave reviews I have seen on this site. As for the people who gave WO (Wesley Oaks) positive reviews' Trust me, after you have lived there for a few more months, you will start to see the downside of living at WO. Anyway.

In December 2003, some of the Wesley Oaks employees allegedly (if not them, someone else, possibly another resident) stole a 357 magnum hand gun from my friends apartment (his gun was registered, it was legal), as well as a collectors knife. My friend reported this to League City police, who did not do anything but file a report.

When my friend informed the management about the thefts, they showed no concern -- which is unbelievable to me. He pointed out to them whoever stole the items has to be an apartment employee, since they had to have a key; there was no evidence of forced entry (the cop who came to the scene agreed it was an inside job).

Based upon my experience and those of my friend, some of the Wesley Oaks staff lie about how much rent and fees you owe them. They ripped my friend off for $100 at the end of his time there. (It is a long story I go into at the website; see URL to site above.)

I have met both Krista and Ed in person, and here are my conclusions based upon these meetings with both:

(a) A newly (as of fall 2003) hired female employee who works in the office, Krista (I think her name is), is incredibly rude and condescending to the residents; she treated my friend with contempt when he discussed paying his rent with her

(b) The manager, Ed, seems totally ineffective and wishy-washy. In my view, he does not strike me as being a problem solver or "can-do" man. Anytime I entered the administrative building, he was either sitting in his office apparently doing nothing or walking down the hallway chatting with others; he never showed interest in helping us with our problems

From what I could tell, many of the people who run Wesley Oaks are NOT friendly or understanding (e.g., about late rent payments or other issues), so I have no idea why another poster to this board said that.

Some of the young ladies who *used to* work in the office when my fiance first moved in were pleasant, but all (or most) of them stopped working there.

Some of the people, like a few of the maintenance people or cleaning ladies, ARE nice and friendly, so not everyone who works there is rotten or dishonest.

-- However, these people (i.e. cleaning crews etc.) cannot or will not be able to help you when problems arise, like the management allegedly trying to screw you over financially and so forth.

Yes, it is true what others have said: the gates did not work what seemed like 99% of the time (and they still do not, not consistently). There was quite a bit of doggy doo and fire ant hills on the grass around the apartment complex.

As for the guy who wrote the glowing review including the nonsense about their wonderful "tropical" plants and flowers at Wesley Oaks: dude, the only plant life I ever saw on their grounds was shabby, small bushes and dead, patchy grass. Yeah, they had one or two nice potted plants by the pool, but that was the extent of it. But it was not a tropical paradise.

They already have a lot of vacancies there and have been having a hard time keeping what tenants (and employees) that they *do* have. This is a red flag that there is something wrong with their establishment.

When my fiance first moved there, the noise level was very quiet, but during the last few months of 2003, noisier people kept moving in (when they do get lucky enough to get new tenants there).

Only inquiries/comments by formers residents who had bad experiences at WO or other places are welcomed.

UPDATE: beware, there is a web "troll" or "flamer" who e-mails former (WO) Wesley Oaks residents who post their e-mail addresses here; he or she pretends to be a Wesley Oaks lawyer who tries to bully you into removing any of your negative posts about WO Apts. This person further claims to know your identity, yet does not address you by your name in his/her e mail, which demonstrates that this person is not legitimate

>>> BOTTOM LINE (and based upon my and my friends eyewitness account and time spent at Wesley Oaks Apartments and talking to and interacting with its staff/management): Wesley Oaks management and owner are not professional or ethical. And their units, while nice in appearance, are NOT worth $800+ a month, in my estimation. <<<
