Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007

I lived at Chapel Hill for 2 years, mainly becasuse I was too lazy to pack. After looking at only a couple of apartments I was star struck when I walked into the front office of Chapel Hill and greeted with friendly smiles and the aroma of fresh baked cookies. I fell in love with the apartment...really I think I was in shock that they had a free car wash and a movie theater on site...I mean seriously not many people have that. On move in day I should have known what was in store when I walked in and my apartment was filthy. The carpet was old and the vents were black. Not to mention my a/c ran all the time b/c it was leaking freon. I called maintenance 3 times to look at it before it was fixed and suffered a $375 electric bill one month. Going to talk to a manager was pointless because the assistant only wants to deal with renting more apartments and anytime someone upset comes in they are snet upstairs to the property manager whether she is there or not. At least that was my experience. The turnover of the leasing staff is quite high too. The current staff is nothing compared to what it was when I moved in. They all seem angry. Don;t move into an apartment that has indoor stairs above you. It doesn't matter how softly you walk on them it sounds like a dresser getting pushed down the stairs, and all the extra space increases electric bills too. I moved out because my rent was being increased again and I never used all of the ammenities. In fact the only one I would have used was the fitness center, but the last 5 months I was there over half of the equipment did not work, but they weren't fixing it b/c the new gym was coming. I was told it would be done by Summer of last year, but when I moved out in the fall it still wasn't done.

I totally agree. This place is a joke. The grounds are beautiful and the apts look great on the outside but the staff are absolutely horrible once you have signed a contract. The clubhouse shuts down early on the wekends which is ridiculous. They wait until the beginning of summer to drain all the pools and repair/paint them which takes several weeks. Summer was half over before they had the pools functioning again. You are only allowed to have 2 guests at the pool, white house, or any of the other amenities. The gates only work part time. The foundations on a lot of tyhe units are sinking and cracking. My aptartment leaned horribly because of it. My cabinet doors wouldn't stay closed because of the lean of the apt from the foundation problems. I urge you to look elsewhere. There are much better apartments in the area for the same price if not cheaper.

Yeah, me too! The place looked really nice and then, because Chapel Hill offers FREE Time Warner extended tv cable service, I never used the gym, only watched free t.v.!! UGH! I got FAT!! I never went & swam in their 8 swimming pools, because I'm lazy, but I did go to their FREE monthly brunch and ate all of the pancakes & omeletes..but then, I got even fatter so the swimming pools were out of the question.
Ok, then I used their free curbside trash service to throw out all of my fast food trash, and because I threw it out without being in a bag, and in the middle of the afternoon, they told me that I can only put the trash out between 6 & 8:30 am every day...man that sucks!! I sleep until noon watching the free tv cable all night, what are they crazy?? Then the maintenance staff, that's a whole other story! I shoved too much food down the disposal and it stopped working, so I called & they had someone from maintenance out that SAME DAY!! What were they thinking?? I was asleep that day until 3 pm, then someone is knocking on my door?? Can't they come at night or something???
I didn't pay attention & the electric company was charging me double what some companies charge so my electric bill was high, I think that it's CH fault too!
With all of the amenities, I can't go anywhere on this property without having some amenity around me, UGH!!! I mean, a racquetball court, 2 movie theaters, 8 swimming pools, 2 dog parks, lighted tennis, volleyball, basketball, rivers & lakes, and now the brand new 3000 sq. foot fitness center is open from 6 am to 10 pm 7 days a week, MAN THAT SUCKS!!! I just want a regular apartment without anything to do...I can relate to these complainers above, they need to move to a old property that doesn't have what chapel hill has so then they have nothing to complain about!!!! I mean, dang, just read these above...nag nag nag about any and everything...wah..my cabinet doors..wah I can't have my gang of friends over to make trashy noise in the middle of the night...and WAH the electric bill is the apartments fault!!!

I'm not saying the ammenities aren't nice, but for most of us there is no time for using them. Not to mention if you think you are not paying for all of those you are wrong. Those ammenities, even the "free" cable, is reflected in your rent somewhere, and when you renew with that brand new fitness center we'll see how much it's worth to you. They only said it was coming for how many months? That thing doesn't have hardly any equipment to support all of the people that live there...or maybe it does since no one ever uses the ammenities b/c they don't have time or they don't want to pay to use a fitness center that was presented as free. What's your deal with being overweight?

that 2nd reply was one of the employees at Chapel Hill making fun of viable complaints. Maybe someone should call code enforcement on the "free" monthly brunch. Do they have a Permit from the Health Dept to run a "free"(tips are ENCOURAGED!!!)food service??????

Well, first off I pay for a place to live and am a very fit person who has a busy schedule. I'm not paying for the ammenities, they may be nice, I guess, but thats why I go to the gym, UGH! Great service, I mean it only takes five maintaince request and when you ask someone, nag nag nag is all they do. I guess rude is the way to go??????? The maintaince work great, well I'm at work all day and when I schedule a day with the maintaince man for a day I'm off they dont show, thats cool. They did come that Friday while everyone was at work and fixed it, even though I had 30 dollars missing from my night stand, GREAT SERVICE! So I guess I would like a place with just me and my family, where I don't get to deal with all the great service and ammenities.....SO everyone should definitely move in here.... I mean great place...really. Dont know how you can pay THESE prices by laying around all day and getting fat????

In response t the original post I must say I agree. You come in and it is like walking into apartment heaven, everyone is so nice and accommodating and then the sign your lease and reality hits. My apartment too was dirty when I moved in, cat fur covered many of the surfaces and the fur on the walls just got painted over leaving a nasty weird texture. My bathtub didn't work so after a day of moving I go to take a shower and can't, had to wait till the next day for someone to come and fix it. My carpet was nasty, full of fur and slight stains. I mean, Chapel Hill advertises luxury living but has yet to provide it in their apartments. They do an excellent job in their amenities though, the only problem there is that the average person spends 90% of their time in their house and 10% at the amenities while being home. Doesn't it seem as though they should be pouring their time into what is used most? And the worst part about all of this is that in the last year they have more than doubled the cost of water, sewer, trash, etc and increased the average rent by a minimum $100 a month. Its Crazy! You can go across the street and get a bigger apt for less money. I hate to have to move but they are basically forcing me....its sad
