Wonderful Place...some things to think about
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 2/23/2007
Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
I have lived in this apartment for about 6 months now, and I really enjoy it. There are a few things that you should think about that I wish I had known ahead of time. This is the most honest review here.
1. The charm of this place is that there is no covered parking, so the place has a kind of Euro-village vibe, with a clean look and narrow streets. Things to consider regarding parking are
a. some units have a space in front of the garage where a car could park or even stand for a while. Those units that are on corners do not have this space, so you do not get this extra parking, and if you want to stand your car for a few minutes, your car will be in the street.
b. Aesthetically, the streets are cool, but I find that some residents drive way too fast on them, and I get very nervous with my child. Don't think that your child will be safe playing in these streets.
That brings me to my next point...children. There are young families here, which is great. The community feels very safe, which I think is a bit rare in some apartment communities in Lewisville. From what I've seen, this is by far the safest one. The downside is that there is really no child meeting place i.e, a playground or any sports courts. There is a pool, but this is only an option a few months out of the year. In the developer's defense, I can see how the apartment may seem to cater more toward single business professionals given its proximity to Dallas.
The ammenities:
The pool is nice...no diving or deep end. Just for wading and volleyball. There is ample pool furniture, and a nice hot tub in my opinion. The hot tub does not get as hot as it should, and it does not stay hot year round.
The exercise room is decent. Currently, they have an eliptical, a bike, 2 treadmills (1 brand new), a couple of dumbells (literally, like 5s, 10s, and 20s), a multi-purpose weight machine, and an elevated machine for abs. The room is open 24 hours with a code and is always clean. Management has replaced machines when needed.
There is also a mail-office room for the residents w/ fax, a copier, and internet.
The apartment:
The real charm of this place lies mostly in location and its outside cleanliness. The apartments themselves are not luxury, as they may seem from outside. Though completely functional, the appliances, flooring, and cabinetry are cheap. The crown molding and high ceilings are really nice. Some apartments have been upgraded to a spray-on textured counter top which definitely adds a richer feel. The living room is also very big and open. 2 patios are a nice touch. The rooms are big, with lots of light and nice windows. Plenty of electrical outlets. HUGE CLOSETS! The architecture of the inside is also very nice.
You are close to the water, so plan on a slight ant problem in your bathroom. These ants are resilient. Pest control comes out, but they've built up an immunity...you'll need to dust for them occasionally. For some reason, they are contained in only 1 bathroom, so that's good. Occasionally, I catch an off-color smell from the faucet.
THESE APARTMENTS NEED CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS! Ok, it's amazing this isn't fire code, but with all of these adjacent garages, if someone runs their car in their garage carbon monoxide will seep into the entire building. This has happened twice already since I've lived here and has resulted in a fatality.
Utilities:
Everything is reasonable minus electricity. Watch this your first month! We've managed to conserve a bit, but your electricity bill will be high for a place this size. Not sure why, though I assume it's the efficiency of these air conditioning units which don't cool the apartment too well. More fans in the apartment would help. There is no fan in the living room. There is 1 fan per bedroom. These fans would cool better if they weren't so close to the ceiling.
Regarding noise, I actually never hear my neighbors! Though they hear me unfortunately. Must be an upstairs apartment thing. So if you want to be heard, but not hear, get an upstairs unit. What you do hear often are police and fire sirens. The main Lewisville road arteries are all nearby and there is a fire and police station nearby. There is also a landfill very close to the place. Perhaps this is where the lakepointe children should hang out...just kidding. I rarely, rarely smell it. You smell it on a hot day in your garage, but that's really it. Hey...the garages are huge and rare for an apartment. You do hear dump trucks dumping late at night.
Management:
I like them. They're young, cool, and try to get the residents to hang out with monthly breakfasts. They remember your name and apartment number. They take care of your packages and they live here. They remind me of a concierge at any nice hotel.
Repairs:
I like the repair guys. They are really funny and very friendly. They always fix things promptly and you can trust them completely in your place. Also, they pick up trash like 3 times a week.
Outside the community:
Busy roads, but the Super Target and Starbuck's and great and in walking distance. There are also plenty of other practical shops nearby. Unfortunately, the sidewalks end, and many times I've almost been killed on my bicycle. The issues I have here mostly lie with Lewisville city planners, which you'll find are terrible. No parks, no trails, no central area, no recycling.
Lakepointe is too hip a place to be in Lewisville, which I've found to be a very dry feeling city. The school's football team is named the "Fighting Farmers". I suppose that hints at what I'm getting at. So, in summary, these apartments are wonderful, the city itself could use new management.
