Nice apartments, stupid and loud dogs

My wife and I have lived here a little over 2 years. We like the idea of having an apartment that has an attached garage. When we first moved in, we had no issues whatsoever. The complex was rather quiet. Then about a year after we moved in we had a family with an annoying pug move across the street from us. They decided to keep their dog on the patio and have it bark at all hours of the nights. Our neighbor moved out during this time and was replaced with 2 rat terriers (My wife and I refer to them as Beelzebub and Lucifer). The lady who owns these two rats decides that the decibel level of the pug isn't loud enough and decides that her dogs need to sing soprano. And so the orchestra starts, from early morning to late at night they create mind debilitating orchestra continues. To make matters worse, in the last few months one of the tenants in building 12 has decided to leave their dog in the garage. And let me tell you about this new player. He has a set of pipes that would put Pavarotti to shame. He has so much stamina I sometimes feel that he was born near a nuclear power plant. The dog just won't stop barking. It is like he's trying to break a record or asking to be shot. It is a shame that this is what we have had to endure day and night. We have complained to management on several occasions. They have asked the neighbors to keep the demon dogs indoors. This is done for a few days and then Mozart and Beethoven are back to support Pavarotti who seems to have a never ending supply of energy. My wife and I are at our wits end with the noise. We love our home but hate what it has become in the last few months. Management overall is good and the maintenance guys are really nice. The only other issue I have is the lack of Visitors parking (which is understandable because of how small the complex is) and the kitchen appliances, which includes a microwave that was made for Barbie and an Oven that is useless because it has no light and has no window (which means that we have to open it and shine a torch into it to see if the food is done). In the end though this is an apartment complex but could you guys please please please, 86 the dogs or at least ask the owners to muzzle the dogs.

If you have made management aware of this ongoing problem, they should be doing more than just suggesting the tenants quiet their dogs. File a noise complaint with the police if you have to. Management is not likely to be much help. It *is* Lakepointe Residences we're talking about, after all. Though I'm sure any day now you'll get a response with Sandie "apologizing" that you are troubled by these "acts of nature"....

Yes, it is an apartment complex. Yes, you should expect a certain level of noise living in close quarters with other people. However, people with dogs should also consider what it is to be a neighbor that has to endure non-stop yapping at all hours. A barking fit here and there is one thing. I lived at Lakepointe near the garaged dog and know what it is like. It was often very early in the morning and would go on for hours. I kid you not. Hours. Non-stop. A high pitched constant yap. Yap. Yap. Yap. Yap. Yap. There's really only so much a neighbor should have to tolerate. I am also a dog owner and believe that these people should be doing something about a dog that barks with this frequency and volume. They could train or get rid of the dog. The property manager has a right to remove a tenant who is a repeated source of trouble for those around them in the community. Beyond that, they should feel inclined to keep a reasonably quiet home for their tenants. We all sign a lease agreeing to keep noise to a reasonable minimum. Assuming this is the same garaged dog, this has gone on for years. It has gone far beyond the limit of what residents should have to tolerate. Management SHOULD so something.

They don't have the right to remove the tenant, they do have the right to tell the tenant to remove the dog. I wonder though, you being a dog owner, how would you feel about someone asking you to remove your dog? To many, an animal is just an extention of their family. I can't speak for the management and I have no idea if they have had any other complaints about the dog, but it appears that these people may be the only ones. I have had loud neighbors in the past and the issue was promptly resolved, however, when we came to managment, there were a handful of us. Not to say that this situation should go un-noted, but it just makes me a little skeptical that this person would still be living there if this issue was as extreme as it is letting on to be.

I feel my dog is an extension of my family, yet I would also feel they were within their rights if I was causing unrelenting trouble for my neighbors via my noisy dog. As a responsible dog owner and considerate neighbor, I would also not let my dog bark for hours on end. They have had other complaints about that dog, because I lived in that building and I complained about the noise repeatedly, to both the owner and management. So what's the magic number of people complaining to get it to matter? I find it odd that you're skeptical that they are still living there with this issue. You act like it's too much to ask someone to be mindful of their noisy dog, but don't bat an eyelash that someone should just up and move to get away from it. The problem is the dog owner. Not the tenant who is disturbed by the noise.

1. We will be moving out as soon as our lease is up. Unfortunately things got this bad after we signed the renewal 2. You think that I am overstating matters but if you don't live anywhere near this place then you have no basis of understanding how bad things are. 3. Can't wait for October to get here so we can get the hell out of this place. Again, I love the apartment but the management's unwillingness to do anything about this situation is frankly disappointing.
