The problem you have when renting an apartment as a married couple, is sometime the views and opinion of one, don't always reflect the views of the other. Just recently, their was a posting in regards to Lakepointe Apartment that I have to disagree with.
Here's my review....
I have lived in the apartment for nearly 6 months, and some of our problems was not the fault of the apartment. To start, the apartment was clean, minus 1 drawer having some items left it in, it took all about a min to throw the stuff out, no big deal!
When the neighbors moved in the apartment below us is when I first seeing bug, hearing loud noise & music, etc... But to be far to them, they are usually quite people also, and the time I asked them to turn the volume down on the music, they did. Beside, most people party on the weekend, which is the time I heard the loud noise. I am sure my children makes all type of noise in the upper unit, and there have been no complaints about us.
As far as security, check this out... I forgot one Sat and left my door open 1/2 of the day on Sat. When I returned, nothing was missing. The place is "Safe", believe me, I have been in much worth places. The gate does breaks sometimes, but I would rather it break open, than to break close like my last apartment, I couldn't never get in the place if I came home late in the evening. My child (young daughter) can walk to the bus without being harassed, which is the most important safety feature I am concerned with.
After I (not my spouse) report seeing bugs nearly 2 months ago, we haven't seen a single bug in the unit, nor have I seen any mice other than the one by the dumpster. Maintenance will place sticky traps in the garage, just in case!
The community is very small, therefore parking can be an issue if you have more then two vehicle or have a garage like our with no personal space behind it. But that has not been the case for us because we have a 2 car garage. I have seen others get their car towed, but management usually place a "bright" warning sticker on our window before they tow, unless you are parked in the fire lane.
Electric in Texas is normally high, but the bill here has been somewhat in line with an apartment of this size. We keep our heat on a certain temperature and the bill remains close to the same month after month. Some rooms are a bit warmer than others, but that depends on the location of the apartment.
I am not saying you won't have your share of problems at this place or any other place. I think it's all in your approach and your communication with whonm every you decided to rent with. If you have a "true problem", bring it to upper management and give them time to respond. I will guarantee they will take care of it right away.

Being at the apartment for six months, you have not experienced the true shock of air conditioning bills from May to August. By my calculations, you primarily have used the heat during your stay at Lakepointe. I had solar screens that I put on my apartment, as I did not face the west it my my responsibility to pay for screens, and my air conditioning cooled the apartment down to 80(at best). When I posted my comment, it was regarding the air conditioning. Also, my filters were changed on a regular basis. With solar screens, keeping the blinds closed at all times, and regular changing of filters, the air never cooled lower than 80 and my bills were at least $150(when I sweated it out at 85 degrees ) to $250 (when I set the ac at 80) for a 1 bedroom apartment. I notified management and the maintence man came out and inspected the airconditioning. No improvement. The apartment complex should charge $100 per month more in rent for new tenents and people resigning leases to cover replacing the outdated systems. In the end, paying $100 more per month in rent to be confortable and avoid $300 ac cost would be more cost efficeint and the units would be better for the environment. Bottom line, the units are 12 years old and Granite Management needs to update its properties as more than a decade has passed.
