We, like several others, thought this was a great place when we moved in last September. The grounds were well kept, the unit was clean, the staff seemed courteous and professional. We thought we were getting a great deal. We signed our lease more than 30 days before we moved in. On move-in day, we found that the apartment was not ready - it hadn't been painted yet. And the "upgrade" we got as part of our look and lease special - slightly better bathroom lighting - had not been completed either. 30 days and it wasn't ready' We should have bailed then - it was a sign of things to come. The first night we were there, our toilet started leaking - from the bottom seal. Maintenance wanted to know if we were sleeping there that night, did we need it fixed immediately. Seriously - toilet water all over the bathroom floor and they want to know if it's urgent. Then there was the towel bar we couldn't use - we listed that on our walk-through. It took them almost 2 months to fix that - the same amount of time it took for our "upgraded lighting" in the bathroom to finally be installed. Around November, we noticed a different element in the complex. Our neighbors changed, and were much noisier. Christmas Eve, our car was broken into and Christmas was stolen out of our trunk. We called the police, of course, and notified the office staff. They had no reaction - they simply didn't care. In January, as I was caring for my husband after his surgery, someone attempted to break into my car again - as I was making trips carrying up groceries. This was at 1030am on a Saturday. Broad daylight. Again, management did not care. Even worse neighbors move in and the noise increases again. In April, someone tried to get into our apartment while we were home. In May, someone stole my fern off of my doorstep. I no longer feel safe here. There are people creeping around the back of the building all the time. There are people screaming and being really loud at the pool until all hours of the night. The garbage dumpsters are always overflowing with someone's crappy furniture. And the crap - it's everywhere. People do not pick up after their pets! Disgusting. I finally had it and wrote to the manager. She was very impertinent and actually told me that "resident safety is not the responsibility of LumaCorp / Somerset." In other words, they just don't care. I wrote the corporate office after dealing with this horrible woman - they never replied. Stay away from Somerset unless you want to be burglarized, insulted and disrespected - all for paying your rent on time.
