We (my husband and I) have lived in VS since July of 08. Last summer (of 08) we had problems with our door locks. We had maintance come out and check it. They adjusted it and told us that because of wood swelling that there was only so much they could do. They fixed it, but the fix only lasted a few days. After that they told us that the building shifted so much that they couldn't do anything. Well today, I sat outside my apartment because even using full body weight (155 lbs) I couldn't pull my door down enough to put it into unlocking position. I had to wait on my husband to get home to open it for me.
This is not the only time we have had problems. We called maintanace last summer because our bedroom door wouldn't close. They came, and cut our door with what appeared to be a hack saw. Sitting in the living room, you could look at the top of our door and see into the bedroom! They did fix it right away after we reported it, but still!
As a whole, we have enjoyed our stay here. They are friendly (Erin in the office is great!) and they seem to care, but the complex as a whole is old. The doors are aweful! I am almost ready to pack up and leave tonight. I can't believe that as much as I'm paying I can't even get into my own apartment!


PS if you plan to be here on Saturday, be here by 4pm or you will NEVER get a parking space, but that is a whole new rant.

Can't really empathise with this, but hopefully your insulation is better than our room. You can feel a draft from the outside in your apartment. It causes the AC or HEATER to run constantly.

UPDATE: Once we were aware of the situation in this particular building, we had a foundation company come check it out and we have since had foundation repairs completed. We rely on our the residents to alert us to these types of issues in your home so that we can repair them as quickly as possible. It is unfortunate that this resident had a bad experience, but hopefully yours will be much better.
