awesome place, definately a hidden gem

I absolutely love this apartment. The management (Brent Tidwell) is quick to address any problems you have, and does regular maintenance HIMSELF! He checks the smoke detectors and replaces air filters every 3 months, always leaving a notice of when it will occur about a week beforehand. The location is right near the south Loop 289 and University Ave., which makes for easy entertainment trips and quick highway access.

Amberwood only has 16 units, and is next to another apartment complex which Tidwell owns. I believe these apts. are about 2 years old. All units are 2 bed, 2 bath. The stained concrete floor has always been a conversation point. (So easy to clean!) Plush carpet in bedrooms, 2" wood blinds, new appliances, full-size washer dryer connections, contemporary paint, and modern lighting and hardware make this an excellent place for those looking for something nicer than most other complexes. That being said, it is definately not the "typical" college student apartment. I would recommend Amberwood for serious students, young professionals and up. It is not loud, does not play host to parties every weekend, and doesn't have social amenities like a club house, pool, or game/media center. These are great for people who like to keep to themselves, like calm atmospheres, etc.

Parking is an issue at times. Each apartment gets 2 assigned spots. Depending on which unit you live in, they may be arranged strangely. (One might be next to your apartment, the other right in front of your door.)If you have guests, there is not anywhere for them to park, as the other apt. complex uses the unmarked ones. You would have to tell guests to park off-street.

Each apartment gets a side-yard, or a small backyard. Most in this community have pets. Sometimes dogs barking can be a nuisance.

Issues: Parking, as noted above. Heavy rain can lead to the parking lot filling up with water/puddles. Interior-wise: They don't have walk-in closets. One bedroom's closet is 2 feet deeper, but the other is a double-door about 8 foot long horizontal closet. The other complex does have young children who play outside in the shared parking lot. You have to be very careful, and drive slowly in the lot.
