Where to even BEGIN with all the problems I have had so far with this place' First off, we signed our lease in November of 07 in order to move in August of 08, so we could get the preffered building we wanted and floor. We asked to be located closer to the front of the complex, in buildings 1-5. We got put in building 8, which is up against the BACK fence of the apartment complex. Then, we asked WHEN WE SIGNED THE LEASE to be SURE that we could move in early because me and my other two roommates had to do rush. We were assured MULTIPLE times that it wouldnt be a problem since we were signing our lease so early and the manager usually granted permission to a couple of apartments. This is one of the main reasons we signed with courtyard, because of their supposed flexibility with when we could move in. This was something that was PROMISED to us when we signed the lease. HOWEVER... over the summer, as we called to check on our apartment and reconfirm our move in date, we were told we would NOT be allowed to move in under ANY circumstances early, on the date that we had previously been promised, and that we were pretty much just SOL. SO... after arguing with them for 2 months over the summer, getting yelled at and treated rudely by the staff, I was already unhappy with this complex BEFORE I moved in. They promised us the world to get us to sign our lease, and didnt follow through with ANY of the promises. So to continue... as move in dates and rush got closer and closer, I was calling every day to try and see the status of our apartment and convince them to let us move in early. I went ahead and drove to Lubbock with my parents two days before the regular move in date, the date they previously told us would be OK to move in on and now saying we couldnt. On that Friday that we were supposed to move in, I called up to the complex and was told the carpet was being replaced in our apartment so I wouldnt be able to get the keys until Saturday afternoon, ONE DAY early. Fine. So on Saturday morning, we went ahead and drove to the apartment complex. We drove by my apartment, which didnt appear to have any workers outside or carpet layers. So, we went ahead and went inside. They gave us the keys and let us start moving in on Saturday morning. Upon coming into the apartment for the first time, it was shocking. Absolutely disgusting. The oven had not been clean, nor the sink, nor any of the toilets or bathtubs/showers. The carpet was DISGUSTING. It had definately not been replaced, so we had been lied to, and it didnt look like it had been cleaned since the apartment had been build. There were huge black stains. We wrote all these complaints on our apartment evaluation sheet. While they did send someone to clean the carpets that week, the stains reappeared within a couple of days. Now, when you walk across our floor with white socks on, your socks still turn brown. So a couple months pass and we are having problems with one of our roomates having family members and friends come over and use our washer and dryer twice a week, and not paying us for utilities. We go to the front office with the issue in which we are told they cant do anything about. And that in order for any of us to be relocated to a different apartment, we would have to have a counseling session with some of the staff. Seriously' Are we back in Junior high' Anyway... the day this counseling session was scheduled for, the problematic roommate moved out. Three weeks later, I get a phone call from a number I dont recognize and a voicemail from a girl saying she wants to move into our apartment and wants to come by and look at it to see for sure if its where she wanted to live. Excuse me' So now courtyard is giving out my phone number WITHOUT calling me first, telling other people they can come by and look at MY home without letting me know ANYTHING. This girl calls me three times and my roommate four times, being very persistent, and was rude while on the phone with my roommate. I called Courtyard to get the situation straightened out because my roommate and I were both uncomfortable having a random, rude girl move into our apartment without our consent. When I asked the staff member how she would feel is she get a random phone call from a random girl telling her she wanted to come "see your apartment" without having any other information nor hearing from the apartment complex, I was met with stammers. I also asked what would happen if this girl decided she wanted to move in, after she was already rude to my roommate, and that neither one of us were comfortable with this. I was again met with stammers, and a reply that the manager would call me back. After talking with the manager, the situation was resolved and the girl ended up having someone just take over her other lease instead of moving in with us. But the entire situation and the unproffesional way in which it was handled, not to mention them giving out my cell phone number without my consent or any explanation about what was going on, was completely uncalled for. So, they ended up sticking another random girl in our apartment and told us this through one phone call which they said "This is the name of the girl moving in in January to your apartment. You might want to contact her before then. This is her number. Bye." She moved in, and while we are fortunate enough that she is actually normal, I would hate to think what would have happened had she been some psycho or had her personality completely clashed with mine and my other roommates. Last but not least, when leaving for Spring break, one of my roommates wrote a note and left it on the kitchen cabinet. The note said specifically at the top, HEY ROOMIES! followed by...please make sure to turn off all the lights, unplug what you can, and make sure the heater and AC are turned off. They were doing apartment "checks" while we were out for spring break, and upon returning, there was a rude little note scrawled at the top of OUR note to each other that said... Good luck with that. Hope the pipes dont freeze and you will have to pay for all the damages to your apt and other surrounding apartments. I was shocked and extremely angry at the unproffesional way the note was written, and the invasion of privacy. I called the front desk and explained the situation, to which i got a rude reply about how I needed to make sure I covered all other bases and talked to my roommates and their boyfriends because there was NO way a staff member had written that note. And the girl I talked to sepcifically checked MY apartment and remembered EXACTLY which one it was, and there was nothing written at the top of it when she left. Righhhhtttt. Unless you have superwoman memory, your not going to remember exactly what apartment is mine out of the 500 units you have. So, after being accused of being an idiot, and dealing with an extremely rude staff member (which, whats new), I told the girl that I was even more concerned now because that meant someone had been in our apartment over the break and written this note, and if she was so SURE it wasnt a staff member, then I wanted the locks changed because obviously they had made an error and someone else had our key. Obviously, they were jus tcovering the rear ends and lying about not writing the note, because who else would come into our apartment, not take anything, and take the time to write about the pipes freezing. No one else other than a staff member would care, nor would they take the time to write that. And IM supposedly the idiot' Also, the parking sucks, there are always parties and no where to find a parking spot. Dont even bother calling the courtesy officer if there IS a party that your trying to file a noise complaint on, he wont bother calling you back. After one particular party in which EIGHT vehicles were hit and the person who hit them just left, the apartment complex decided to
"punish" the tenents by closing the computer center and the workout room unless it was OFFICE HOURS. Hello, I am paying 469 dollars a month to include that workout room whenever I want it and to use the computer center, and your going to take that away because cars got hit by a drunk driver from party your courtesy officer was too lazy to check up on' Also, there has been a box of trash sitting outside the second floor that you see when you walk up the stairs since JANUARY. It hasnt been moved. And the grounds are constantly full of trash, dog crap, and cigarette butts. Also, they say they have a pet weight limit, but the girls in my building have a HUGE dog thats AT LEAST sixty pounds, I think its a golden retriever, full grown that is constantly on their balcony. The reason why they are allowed this big dog and no one else is' One of the girls works in the office. These are also the same girls who have huge parties three nights a week every weekend, which in turn makes parking at my building ridiculous to find a spot, and noise horrible. And watch out when you do walk to your car, because you may step in a huge piece of dog crap. You can see how the management SUCKS, the staff is rude, and the experience has been TERRIBLE! DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO DEAL WITH A YEAR OF DRAMA!

similar problems. very hard staff to deal with. and the girl that lived above you with all of the parties was the same girl that lived above me the year before, we filed complaints too but no luck. they smoked too and their cigs would be thrown off their balcony in front of ours (we were on the first floor) and then we got FINED for having cigarettes in front! it was rediculous. i also have a roommate who uses her credit card to break into my room when i leave and lock it, so i asked courtyards to change the lock to my door and they were rude. i said my rent covers the fact that my door has a lock and should work, they said unless you have a body guard standing outside your door every day there is no garaunteed security and that it is like that at any apartment complex...... the apartments are nice and at a good location, but the staff is horrible to deal with if you have any problems. including the woman that runs the complex.

Haha, I think a lot of your experience has to do with your lack of understanding on how apartments should run. The majority of apartment complexes have a policy of filling an empty room w/ a new tenant if it becomes open later in the semester. Also, I do agree that the note the maitenance staff left was probably unprofessional but it's so true.. if you turn your heat off in the LBK when it's cold outside, your pipes will freeze over! I've lived at Courtyard and have experienced minimal problems... yeah on Friday and Saturday nights it's hard to find parking but what else would you expect when living in an apartment complex made for college students? lol. I did have an issue with a courtesey officer once when I got locked out of my apartment past hours. However, Courtyard immediately became concerned after my complaint and were as upset as I was... consequently, the officer was reprimanded. I also noticed that there was dog crap in between buidings 3 and 4 for a while but when you sign your lease, it says residence are solely responsible for picking up after their dogs. They even sent out notices explaining the issue to the residence and to report anyone who you saw not picking up after their dog so they could take appropriate measures. Lastly, I was frustrated as well when they closed the workout facility down for a few weeks but if you didn't notice, the facility had been broken into and the movie theatre screen was stolen. Thus, they had to shut it down in order to install the appropriate security measure... quite understandable! I probably sound like I'm on staff at Courtyard but I promiseeee I'm not! I have lived here for 2 years and have signed for my 3rd year just because I have had such a pleasant experience! Sure, there have been one or two negative ones but the positive undoubtedly outway them. Just to prove my point, one issue I had was when I wanted to relocate buildings after my lease was up and they said I could but the floors would not be clean by then so we opted to wait until the actual move-in date. It definitely was annoying having to move all of my stuff to a storage unit for a week and having to live with a friend until my apartment was ready, but I also looked at it from their perspective; they have 1 week to clean every single unit's carpet, kitchen, bathrooms, etc. and if they were to allow every girl involved with a sorority to move in early... well I'm sure you see my point now! I'm kinda surprised they promised that to you without letting ya know that the carpet and apt. wouldn't be cleaned in time! Anywho, they've been pretty accomodating otherwise over the past 2 years but that's just my experience thus far!
