Currently still living at Oates Creek (its hard to find locations so convenient and affordable). Unfortunately, however, the things people are posting about Oates Creek are true. PLEASE DON'T PUT YOUR LIFE OR POSSESSIONS IN DANGER BY MOVING HERE!! It just isn't worth the move in special or low rent. Located next to a section 8 property that is calmer and nicer looking than itself, Oates Creek is teeming with crime. Its sad, because the inside of the units are nice when you move in and are larger than most, but you feel trapped inside it once you move in because of what's happening all around you! Gunshots in the middle of the night, police sprinting through courtyards with flashlights and guns drawn. Neighboring couples beating each other bloody in front of their children and in the breezeways outside their homes (without consequences), and slamming their front door so hard it shakes the building. OH, I almost forgot about the battered wife who knocked on our door 2 weeks ago for a cold pack for her eye. Call the cops.... well, most people there aren't exactly the type to call the police, and make their fair share of trouble, so it is obvious who called when they show up. Most complexes have restrictions about the amount of times the police report to your address before they evict you - funny my neighbors are still there -- and still getting visits from the Mesquite police... The parking lot and breezeways are littered with all types of shady people all hours of the day and night and I have seen children playing in the street as late as 2 am. Cars broken into all the time (even when no valuables are left inside). People are openly doing and dealing drugs outside their buildings and out of their cars. Saw my neighbor light up a joint on our front steps as I was coming home from work the other day. I had to walk past him to get to my door. That's the day I started checking for a new place to live and came across this site. The complex wants to know if we will be renewing our lease... Ha! Doubt that. I am scared to walk across the parking lot alone in broad daylight. Don't even attempt the laundry facility at night, people always break the machines to get the quarters. The water gets cut off an awful lot, and I don't even bother calling maintenance for repairs to anything anymore.

The ONE upside seems to be that the staff has never been rude, and the manager in the office is a real sweetheart and seems concerned enough to at least take or return your phone call. But nothing happens after.

I posted this, with this much detail, because I'm so glad for the reviews on this website that are helping me avoid moving to another place like this.

I would agree to some portion about the management and they are very good at trying to make anyone think they are concerned about a stinkin' thing. At least the maintenance in this complex does respond (FASTER than the mesquite police department). I had a burglary at my unit and after calling 911 I called the emergency maintenance number to have them come and fix the rear patio door that was kicked in. The funniest thing (funny now!) about that evening was the call placed to 911 was at 6:00, when I got home from work, and the police only took 3 1/2 hours to respond. But, at least someone was there, maintenance was there 2 hours before he could replace the door. I wish to god I would have known how stupid I was moving in to the city of mesquite. The poor maintenance guy could have left hours before they responded. They didn't take any pictures or fingerprints. This may sound like a bad post for the police department, Yes, But the focus is on keeping as many people as possible from staying out of this complex.

By the way - I moved out 2 weeks later after my apartment was robbed WHILE I WAS IN IT.
