What started as pleasant experience when signing the next eight months of our lives away, quickly turned bad. My wife and I just graduated college and moved to Springfield while house hunting. We were shown the manager's apt. since our's was still occupied. The apartment was great...new carpet, new cabinets, freshly painted, everything clean, plenty of parking, etc. On day one, move-in day, we saw our new home for the first time. As we walked in without shoes, since the carpet had been cleaned, our socks turned black. The cabinets seemed 50 years old with burn marks and dirty. No one fixed the holes in the walls from the previous tenants. Worst of all, my wife got trapped in the bathroom because the spackle patched door had split and jammed shut against the molding. They did remedy the carpet problem over a month later, even though we agreed would be done before our move in. The bathroom door was fixed 5 months later with hot glue, not replaced. Finally, and probably most important, 8 vehicles, that I know of, were broken into, including ours, in the eight months we lived there. After I did some research at the police dept., I found these apartments, and those immediately surrounding it have a chronic crime problem. Allegedly, our upstairs neighbors were even arrested for dealing drugs. Not one word of warning about any of these crime issues from management, even though they did admit to their knowledge of the situation. They even had the audacity to try and charge me for wanting to leave. A few calls to Walden took care of that. So, are you thinking of renting here' I hope not. Research your apartments through the police department first, and walk through "your" apartment once it is ready to move in, before signing anything. Good luck.
