We moved here back in July of 2007. Wow, $495 a month for a one bedroom hardwood floors, right next to the office. Seemed wonderful at the time, aside from hearing ambulances once in a while and firetrucks come into the complex, everything seemed fine. For once, my fiancee and I finally were starting a life together, and our neighbors seemed to be fine, real nice people...unfortunately as time passed my fiancee and I by...things got worse, and it ended in a life and death situation for my soon to be husband.

Since I get off of work late (11:00 p.m.) my husband comes home at 4 from work, he likes to relax and be comfortable (obviously, who doesn't in their own apartment') and so he does. At about 10 p.m. he hears someone at the door, they knock and they cover the peep hole to the door. He tries looking through the kitchen window to see who's knocking because they don't say anything when he says, "Who is it"...

3 guys come busting in the front door with a gun to his head, one of the robbers holds my fiancee's neck and puts him on the floor, they tie him up and start taking everything we have, they take 30 minutes which seem a lifetime to him, coming in and out of the apartment taking all our electronics and they are searching for something. They look in all our cabinets, rooms, closets, bathroom, kitchen, everything! They find nothing, they seem to be frustrated at the fact that they don't find what they're looking for.

While my fiancee lies on the floor, they have a gun to his back the whole time, they person living upstairs hears nothing, sees nothing, so unfortunately the 3 guys have masks, hoodies, gloves and are well covered. My fiancee tells me that they are looking for 2 guys named "Jxxxx" and "Bxxxx" and supposedly one of them lives upstairs, selling weed to others and unfortunately our apartment was 1088, and guess what' Their apartment upstairs is 2088. Wrong place, wrong time' Who knows, this shouldn't of happened in the first place.

My husband waits patiently on the floor and tells them to take anything they want, and here I am driving home from work, not knowing why my fiancee doesn't answer his phone. Unfortunately they take his wallet with everything in it, fortunately he doesn't carry cash and he cancelled his debit card. They take the keys to his car so he won't try anything, they take his phone so he won't call anyone and they tie him up and leave him there. He manages to untie himself and looks outside the door to make sure they're gone and starts going outside to get to a phone from a neighbor.

Luckily our other neighbor who's name also starts with a "J" arrives and listens to my fiancee, "J" takes my fiancee upstairs to his apartment and they manage to call the cops. The police arrive, my fiancee makes a police report and I come home to find our apartment ransacked and a disaster. I'm just happy that no one got hurt. To make a long story short, these apartments have many many many maintenance issues to be fixed, and they are done in an extremely long amount of time. The water is boiling hot in the summers, and freezing super cold in the winters. There are nats flying around even when I scrub our kitchen until my hands are blistering from doing it so much.

We decide not to live here anymore because I just don't feel safe in my own place anymore. I can't sleep in the bed three people looking for drugs destroy, I can't be in the same dining floor my fiancee was tied to the floor on. I can't look into the mirror of the bathroom where the people opened up cabinets and took all my jewelry from. We try and try and try to break our lease but Claudia says she still needs more information, I mean'' What more do you want from us' Do you want my fiancee's blood on your desk to break a lease' We show you police reports, we give you the police detectives phone numbers and cards they left us. We give you our neighbors witnessing of the police arrivals and statements.

Finally, after my fiancee going back and forth with management, Claudia finally lets us break free, after my fiancee writing a written statement that we need to leave, she charges us an extra 10 days of rent, plus water, we pay our last bill of light and we leave everything the way it was when we first moved. (Claudia said she wouldn't charge us the extra days but that's beside the point anyway.) My fiancee told all his neighbors the next day, everything that happened, our friends who live in front of us, our good neighbor Bill, our new neighbors who even move in right in the week of us moving out we even tell them so they can be careful. My fiancee even gives them our brand new leather couch because we have no where to put it anyway.

By the way, I forgot to mention that night my fiancee got robbed the people came back that same night and opened my fiancee's car trunk and searched for drugs there too, but they found none. Aside from all the pain it took him to get his identity back, driver's license, new keys and a new alarm to his car, everything. Now we must start all over and hopefully this story will get across all of Remington Oaks. If you read this please be careful, North Richland Hills I thought, "What a safe haven"...yeah right. I'm glad we moved out. I'm just hoping no one there gets killed one day.

Parking: Good luck, at night all the lots are taken and you can park at the next building complex.
Noise: Depends on your neighbors, we had college kids upstairs so you do the math.
Maintenance: Nightmare City
Safety: If you didn't read my story, you risk your life here. No lie.
Staff: There's one maintenance guy who's nice, the staff, they all suck.

If you want to respond to me or ask me anything about this place feel free to do so.

This is very sad news. And although it appears they have not posted any notes or warnings about the incident, most police stations keep all that on file. When I have moved in the past, I've called the police station in the respective town and asked them. They generally won't be specific, but they can help nudge in the safer direction. Some towns also maintain a crime database on the website. Some even show the date, type of crime and the location, so as to help determine 'hot spots' to avoid. In addition, I went to my local PD and they had a huge 3-ring binder specifically for police calls to apartment communities. The water issue was like that when I used to live there as well. Nothing like taking a freezing cold shower during the winter.

your not the only one that had security issue. my 2005 mustang was stolen in 2006 had things stolen off my patio if it wasn't for my dogs i would be dead. there was a guy that started pounding down the door at 2 am and of course my outside light didn't work (several maintenance request to fix) and i had my gun cocked and fully loaded once the he herd it ---- over the dogs going nuts he ran off. we had a drug lab across the way i am being faced with a law suit for damages and breaking my lease even though they LOST MY 60day notice and my keys. but you know i am glad i left and i took pictures take a look. http://gallery.me.com/medicstarr/100001
