Westchester Woods should be your last resort, if that. We knew it was trouble going in, but we didn't have a choice or too much time to look more, and that was a huge mistake on our part.
Driving in the apartment is terrible, the gates at the front were already broken when we moved in and haven't been fixed, management says kids derailed them too often so I guess they just stopped trying. The street is very narrow, and people almost cause wrecks very frequently since the gates aren't in operation to regulate the direction of traffic. Your car is not safe. My neighbor and I have both had our tires slashed, and she also had a tasteful five-letter word that start with a 'B' keyed into her car's paint. Mind you, I don't really interact with anybody that lives here, and my neighbor was new. This wasn't revenge of some type.
The doors look terrible, the paint is somewhat discolored and is chipping all over the door, and the pillars in the front of each apartment are constantly written on by kids and maintenance will occasionally come out to paint over it with a different color white. The lights in front of your door and on the sides of the buildings are often out for months at a time, making most areas of the complex dark at night. Evidently they have mixed feelings about patio furniture too. We once had a very light plain and simple wood bench not more than two-feet wide next to our door and they sent us a notice telling us we had to remove it. On the other hand there is someone out here with a huge stone bird bath with a stone virgin mary on top of it.
Forget about letting your kids enjoy the small area of grass in front of your door, of the field out back because there is dog poo and cigarette buds everywhere. People frequently have their dogs of leash too, which means a dog fight, kids getting bitten, or a load of trouble for someone who is responsible enough to have their pet leashed.
The apartments are sizable, and that was pretty much the only plus of this place. The noise is a huge problem though, neighbors constantly have their music blasting out of their cars and apartments, and if you live on a bottom apartment odds are you are going to hear a couple of kids parading around upstairs from 3:00 to 10:00 every night.
Our hot water in one of our two bathroom has gone out three times for a week at a time since we moved here a two years ago. I don't know how they work the piping/heating system but when our neighbors move or when something else goes wrong, we don't have hot water.
Fire alarms are terrible. Our neighbor burned a single piece of toast one night, we saw it moments after it happened and there was no smoke, just an awful smell and the alarms went off for an hour after that until maintenance finally shut them off. Alarms go off at night and day all of the time, and you'll quickly learn the local policemen and firemen by name since they are constantly making visits here.
Bugs are terrible as well. It seems like we've got a giant hole in our wall or something. Ants come from everywhere, including somehow the sides of counter tops and electrical outlets. We've thrown away a lot of food including large animal feed-bags due to these invasions. Silver fish and spiders are everywhere too. They do spray your apartment once a year if you would like, but I wouldn't recommend. They've spray around animal cages before, gotten chemicals all over my furniture, and yet they still miss windows and corners.
The staff seems friendly but not dedicated at the same time. They don't take things seriously and often don't respond.
Some people say that the apartment isn't responsible for all of the irresponsible residents and especially their children. Bottom like though, is that they are. More restrictions need to be put in place here, including bringing back curfew, leash laws, more lighting, less warnings and more evictions. And until that happens, which I doubt any of it will, don't even consider moving here.
