Much better options in the Plano area

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
These apartments are now 20 years old and little has been done to improve them inside. While carpet is replaced every so often, there is no real ventalation in the bathrooms, the floors are squeeky, air conditioning units are poor and poorly maintained, there are a lot of regulations that prevent most people from being able to have a satelite dish. The crime rates continue to increase in the complex and the staff aren't very quick to respond. One of my biggest complaints is the complex places notes on people's door for any account issue. When these notes need to be delivered, the maintaince crew is sent to do the work. So, you always know who might be a few days late on their water bills! You can also use these notes to find out who is up on their lease, see how much people pay each month for their apartment, see who is getting warnings due to their account, etc. So, if you don't like notes on the door, you should skip this place. Additionally, almost everyone I have talked to that has lived in this apartment has complained about "funny accounting". Every couple of months some new, random charge seems to show up. When you first move in, don't be surprised to be stuck with an electric bill from the previous month. You can fight it and get out of it, but you will get a note on your door first!
Within the actual units, everything is old and needs a lot of work. I have yet to see a unit that actually looked really nice inside. Plan on having a stove, fridge, dishawsher that are about 15 years old or older. Plan on having an A/C system that doesn't work well. Plan on having higher electricity costs because the units do not have energy efficient windows, door seals, etc. Planning on fighting with the office staff at least once every few months over the stupid issues. Plan on having higher crime rates.
While most apartment sites show the Brentdale costs about $850 - $1000 a month, there is no way you will EVER have to pay this. Within a mile from the Brentdale, you will find units that are $900 a month, only a couple years old, very nice, great staff, etc. So, most units in the Brentdale go for about $600 - $800 at most. The staff know they cannot charge more than this for the dump the Brentdale is becoming.
So, if you want a low cost apartment that is "gated" (if you consider a gate that doesn't work well gated), in Plano, than you might consider the Brentdale. Just plan on regular headaches and know the place is just old and in need of a lot of updates.
