RUN and don't look back!

My husband and I rented a two-story apartment, directly behind the office for 1 year. I enjoyed the floorplan of the apartment, but that was it!!

I personally did not feel safe, and my husband wouldn?t allow me outside alone after dark. He had lived here for 5 years, and knew of an elderly woman who was raped while walking to her apartment. The complex has almost no lighting, and some nights none at all, and is poorly maintained. What once used to be a volleyball court, is now a huge mud pit with weeds. And what looks like a tennis court is usually used as a soccer field. Young children are always outside unsupervised, until well after dark. I saw the pool open twice, and looked more like a pond. The parking lots are crowded, usually because everyone races for the "safe" spots underneath the streetlight & near the buildings. If you are unlucky, and get stuck way across the lot in the dark, you are awake all night worried about your car. BUT, our car was broken into twice in one week, even though it was parked right outside our door!! Our A/C barely worked, and caused a huge, constant leak of dirty nasty water over the bathtub that made the ceiling buckle down. Everytime I was in the shower I had to stand a certain way so that it would not drip on me. If you pushed the area of ceiling that was drooping down, huge amounts of water would pour out. We dreaded the rain, because the roof would leak into our living room, and right over our bed!! We had to keep pots and buckets strategically placed throughout the house. There was also a special trick to locking and unlocking our door, because the lock was crooked. You had to grip the knob and pull the door up and towards you, and I was never strong enough to do it. Sometimes, it would take me 10 minutes to get into my house. It was difficult to report these problems, because the office was always empty, or someone was "OUT TO LUNCH" for 4 hours. There is ONE maitenance man & two office workers, thats it! A month after we finally were able to talk to someone, maitenance showed up for 5 minutes to look at the problems and never came back!! So, the problems only got worse. We tried to fix it ourselves, then gave up. But, management would magically appear if they did not receive your rent on time, and had no problem with charging nice late fees, regardless of our problems. I wanted to know what the heck we were paying $600 for. Also, beware of the laundry facility. Certain articles of my clothing would mysteriously disappear. Don't plan on communicating with the majority of your neighbors unless you speak Spanish, which luckily my husband does. And, even though the exterminator religiously visited, roaches would visit as well, and our bathroom and closet upstairs became an ant farm. I am a neat-freak who kept the apartment spotless at all times. When we moved in, I had to clean first because it was filthy. Needless to say, we were thrilled when our lease was complete. Then, after moving out, we were sent a bill by management for $100, stating a blind was bent and the oven had crumbs in it and the apartment needed cleaning.
