It's nice when I can sleep at night...

For the most part, this apartment complex is actually very nice. The units are large, the structure is sound, the parking is fine, the location is good, and staff is decent. It's a good place.

I hate it here. I hate it because I can count on at least one horrible night of sleep a week, sometimes several. The master bedroom for many of the units faces the parking lot. They have these huge bay windows that amplifly the noise from the parking lot area. Every car door, every foot step on the side walk, and every phone conversation within 50 feet sounds like it's right inside my room.

IT GETS WORSE. Being kept up late at night by other residence is one thing, but let me tell you about the mornings. In fact, let me tell you about THIS morning. Around 7:00, the trash comes. The dumpster is right outside. No matter how many times I hear it, the crashing sound of steel against sidewalk never fails to jar me out of a deep sleep.

Then around 8:00, the lawn mowers start. About 30 minutes later, the concrete edgers... and then the weed eaters... it's about 10:00 and the leaf blowers have been going for a good 15 minutes now. There are 24 HOURS IN THE DAY. Many of them would be far better for noisey apartment maintenance. Why do they feel the need to mow the lawn during the early morning' I've asked them to schedule these guys later in the day, to no avail.

Last night was extra special too. A local plano cop decided to pull my neighbor over for speeding, AFTER she'd park her truck outside my window. Her headlights and his spot light were beaming through that huge bay window, bouncing off my fan blades and making my room look like a rave. This was at 11pm!!! I went out and asked them to turn the lights off my window so I could sleep. She turned her headlights off and the cop walked back to his cruiser... I went back in, noticed the lights still bright... I guess the cop walked back to the cruiser for some other reason as he kept his spotlight on my for the next 10 minutes.

So lets review.. Last night I was jarred out of sleep at 11pm. Then again by a loud vehicle around 11:45. I got to sleep somewhere after midnight. Then at 7:00am the trash can slams me awake. As usually, it gives me a headache. I try to go back to sleep, but about every 30 minutes another loud machine rolls by my window until 10:00 when I finally give up and get out of bed... groggy, headachey, and cranky.

Maintenance is pretty good... they always try to fix things ASAP. Sometimes they seem like they avoid expensive repairs tho. Veggies rot in my fridge from moisture. I asked them to fix it. I think it's a bad seal on the door. I got a note that said "the fridge has no moisture settings" and something about turning the temp down for me. My veggies froze.

Ah, but really... the maintenance staff here is pretty good. And the ladies at the front really do seem to care about the residents. There are so many big wonderful trees - I love trees. I just can't understand why they bring the lawn guys around so early... and why they don't try to do more to keep noise down in the parking lots at night.

I'm just so tired of waking up with headaches.

To be frank, the best time of day to do lawn care is early in the morning. That way the poor guys doing the lawn aren't roasting and the grass doesn't lose all of its moisture, and most people that work normal hours are out of the house by 8:00 AM.

Trash is picked up early in the morning no matter WHERE you live - 5:00 AM where I live. Those guys have a strict schedule to keep and the complex has no say as to what time it gets picked up.

No matter where you live you will hear soubds of lawn care and trash trucks. I rent a house currently and Sat mornings, when I try to sleep later than 5:30am, I usually hear lawn movers and edgers and the trash truck noise. That is a normal part of anywhere you live. We have rear drives and the trash trucks are loud, dogs bark and the wheels screech, and you hear the motor lifitng the cans to dump them. If magmt and maintenance are good...that's a plus because there is nothing worse than paying rent to get bad service and snotty people to deal with.
