Run away from The Domaine

The apartments are noisy, with both the neighbors and outside activity contributing. The units are not energy efficient in the least, with heating/cooling bills easily running $200/month for a one bedroom in the middle of summer and winter (is there any insulation at all'). Unless you cover the decorative windows, the air conditioning will not keep up with summer heat, and temperatures can reach 90 indoors by the end of the day.

Corners were cut when these units were built, with some of the consequences being that the wood trim around the garage entrance is rotting away, and the paint on the front door is forever bubbling and peeling. The track lights in the kitchen and the dining room have plastic components that are disintegrating over the course of time, so one is likely to permanently detach a light by just attempting to change a light bulb. The seams in some of the walls will split if you place anything heavy (like furniture) in the rooms.

When I moved in the property was managed by Lincoln Property Company, and they did an excellent job of maintaining the residences and the grounds. Over the course of several years there were a string of four different management companies, with Conner Group being the latest and the worst.

Under Conner the caliber of the residents went downhill in a serious way. Neighbors started having loud fights with their girlfriends/boyfriends in the middle of the night. Poorly maintained recreational vehicles started appearing in the parking lot. Outside guests started showing up at the front gate in the morning, as if someone was running a business out of their apartment.

My last lease renewal experience with the Conner Group started a full 3 1/2 months before my lease was up. I began getting weekly calls at work from leasing agents, asking if I was going to renew, and saying how much money they could get renting my apartment to a new tenet. When I agreed to consider a new lease, they gave me paperwork that detailed an additional $85 a month in rent and fees, plus permission to go to community electricity billing (read pay for clubhouse, pool, and security lighting).

I delivered my notice at the required 2 months prior to the end of the lease. Once I had finished moving and had the apartment and carpet professionally cleaned, I called the leasing office twice to arrange for their requested move-out inspection. I had to leave voice-mail message both times, and never received a return call. When I later obtained a final statement there were $200 in questionable charges (I've never been charged anything for any of the other apartments I've lived in).

My take on this experience is that the current management company's (Conner Group's) primary goal is to extract the largest possible amount of money from its tenets. Not only did they bump my rent each time I was up for renewal, but the number and amount of additional fees seemed to increase each time. By the time I left they wanted a garbage collection fee (this used to be free), a pest control fee (new), an energy efficiency fee (what the hey is that'), and they wanted go to community billing on electricity. On several occasions fees were added or increased during the lease term without notice. Move-out seems to be just another excuse to sock charges to the residents.
