Good outweighs the bad

I have lived at Eastside Village for about 7 months and would continue living here if I didn't have to move out of state for a job. I have really enjoyed living here. Of course, it's not all perfect. Other people have mentioned some of these issues before but I'll go ahead anyway. I'll get "the bad" out of the way first. For some reason people like to rev their engines very loudly in the parking garage late at night, or speed through it as if they're drag racing. It's definitely true that you will not have a 100% dark apartment at night... my apartment faces the courtyard and light filters in through the blinds. Although, for security reasons I do like that the lights are kept on, and if it really bothered me that much I could hang curtains or something. I have had a problem with my upstairs neighbor blaring loud music on occassion. Usually it's during the day and it's actually not bad music ;-) so I don't complain, but it has happened a few times early in the morning and late at night; management doesn't seem concerned. Also, the entrance nearest to my apartment is right beside the dumpster... the smell can get pretty nasty toward the end of the week. I think if I had to choose again, I would choose a top-floor apartment instead of being on the 1st floor... because of the trash and noise issues, and also because we're technically not supposed to park on the first level of the parking deck, that's "4-hour city parking"... twice I have gotten a parking ticket.
Now it probably seems like I hate the place, but that's not true! I've lived in several apartment complexes and this is definitely the best. The kitchen is very spacious with lots of counter space and nice wood floors, the bathroom and closet are HUGE, and the place overall has a very cozy, unique feel. Not like so many cookie-cutter apartments you see. The building itself is usually quite clean. I like being able to walk to the train station and the little shops/restaurants nearby. The courtyard is very nice and relaxing. I guess you pay a little more for the "uniqueness", but I think it's worth it. There's also a lot to be said for living in a NEW apartment. I have had no problems (as in things breaking) and have seen very few insects. Management is very friendly, if a little flakey at times. When I was moving in, one of the staff even helped me carry some of my heavier items.
Overall, I highly recommend Eastside Village... too bad I have to move!
