A FAIR REVIEW WITH NO HIDDEN AGENDA

This is a fair review given with no hidden agenda....I have a one bed/one bath apartment. The units are very nice and have a lot of small touches that make them unique. They have huge bathrooms with huge walk-in closets. Only problem-no more storage areas in the unit.
I've only had two maint. requests, which were handled in less than 24 hours, so I am not a good judge on that issue. Maint. staff are always very polite and friendly when seen on the property. I think the office staff could learn a little about customer service from the maint. crew. I read another comment about how someone was treated due to the way they look. I have told several of my friends about this same problem. I feel looked down on whenever I drop off the rent check, so I simply wait and put it in the drop box so as to avoid contact with the office staff. (There is one in particular who is probably spoiling this review for the entire mgmt. staff, but I will not mention names.) There is an obvious level of "snootiness" within the leasing office walls. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, so maybe they don't know they are coming off to people in this manner. HOWEVER, the individual who leased the apt. to me was great. (Unfortunately, that person is no longer working there.) It's very difficult to actually speak with office staff as they are rarely in the office. This could be an issue of understaffing. Maybe they don't have any control over this, but they should really relay this to the mgmt. company as it has been a persistant problem.
The rent is a little much, but I really can't complain about it because I knew the price when I signed the lease. They offer great specials for "preferred employers." Be sure to ask if you think your employer is on this list.
The elevators are nice, but are occassionally broken. In the one year I have lived here, we've had a handful of false fire alarms, which, unfortunately, all occurred at late hours. But, hey, I'd rather be safe than sorry, so I'll take a little inconvenience in exchange for safety.
If you are a light sleeper, be cautious. There are a lot of police/fire sirens through the night. Additionally, there is a lot of light and activity in this area well into the night, but I sleep like a rock, so it's never bothered me. I must have picked a good floor/phase to live in because I NEVER hear load music, etc... from the neighbors. Everyone I live around is very considerate.
I would strongly recommend these to the "YUPPY" crowd. If you have kids, there doesn't seem to be a lot for them. If you don't mind the higher rent, you'll be satisfied with this place. If you don't really have the extra income, it's not worth it. Wood floors, stainless steel buffets, garden tubs, pretty sconces and light fixures, and 9 foot ceilings are nice but come at a price, so if you don't need all that, this probably isn't the place for you.
I was also a victim of car vandalism which will cost me a $250 deductible, but such is life. If that's the worst that happens to me, I'm a fairly lucky person overall. I was satisfied with the mgmt's response to the car vandalisms. The security gates are usually working. In the one year I was there, I can only remember a handful of times that they were broken. When compared to other security gates, these are clearly better maintained.
The parking garage is nice as your car is shielded from the weather; however, I am glad that I do NOT drive a big SUV! The spots are small and the turns are tight! I wish more drivers would slow it down around the corners. I've gotten lots of door dings, but what's new. That happens wherever you go.
The businesses surrounding the apts. give some discounts to the residents which is nice. It's nice to be here when there are parades or downtown activities/festivals going on!
PETS-I love dogs-used to have one, but there is not ample space for taking the dogs out. The area used for potty breaks is tiny; therefore, it is very smelly and gross. I wouldn't want to live near it! But, the residents need to do a better job of cleaning up after the pets. The mgmt. has doggie bags in conviently located places, so there really is no excuse for leaving pet waste behind. I don't think it's appropriate to charge pet rent. If you charge pet rent, you should charge other kinds of rent and not stick it to the pet owners.
Overall, these apts have been average. They are cute, but that comes at a price. I am moving because they are raising my rent. 13 months, no complaints filed on me, no late payments, no load music, no problems and the rent still goes up. Well, ya win some, ya lose some. My utilities are far less than in previous apartments, which leads me to believe they are well insulated.
Oh, one last comment.... I miss seeing green, open spaces. This area is a sea of concrete!

I've lived here 9 months, I have 4 to go. I am wondering how much they raised your rent after 13 months? When I ask mgmt this question, they just beat around the bush...
