Okay, place, but looking forward to moving

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2007
I've lived at Highlands of Preston (formerly Camden Highlands) for 3 years. Ever since Highlands of Preston bought the adjacent Camden complex, things seem to have gone downhill. The Camden office staff were always willing to go out of their way to help. The UDRT management doesn't ever seem to follow up when they say they'll call you back on any issues. There also seems to have been quite a bit of office turnover in the last year. I've also been lied to by the office staff on multiple occasions. When renewing my lease, I kept waiting for my copy to be delivered to my door. I called the office and was told "it must have been left at the other apartment ###, we'll get you a new one". The manager confirmed that they wouldn't have done that. The other time was concerning the water allocation clause in my lease. My lease had the addendum concerning water allocation, and I signed it with the rest of my lease. Several days later I got a note on my door saying that I didn't sign the water addendum, and they gave me another copy, and asked that I sign it. I looked back at my copy of the inital lease, and I had signed it, but they chagned the terms and wanted me to sign a different copy. I went ahead and signed the new copy rather than make a big deal about it.
There are also duplicate apartment numbers in the complex, one set for the initail complex, and one set for the old Camden half. Although they have different addresses (2523 versus 2525), it all looks to be the same and inevitably your deliveries may go to the wrong place. UPS and FedEx know the difference, but your pizza man or furniture deliveries may end up at the wrong apartment. Give them instructions to call for directions!
Maintenance requests seem to be handled in a timely fashion, but the workmanship seems kind of shoddy. When my water heater busted, they came out and replaced it within a day, but they also busted up the drip pan for the water heater. Should the new one ever break, it's going to be a problem. The drywal around the water heater was also dammaged by the break, and they said they'd have to come back the next day to repair it. It's been 10 months. I've also had a leaky faucet repaired, only to have it start leaking two days later.
Also, when the Camden complex was bought by UDRT, we received notices about upgrades and changes that were going to be taking place around the complex "within the next few months". It's been a year, and nothing has been done.
All that said, the complex does have it's benefits. The layouts are great, and seem to be a good value for the area (although rents seem to be increasing quite a bit lately). The walls are a bit thin, but the bedrooms don't seem to share common walls with other apartments, so that helps. But loud bass will travel through floors and ceilings. Most of the tenants seem to be quiet, with several older folks living in the complex. It's by no means a party place, but crappy neighbors can easily break that. The location is great too, you're close to everything in Plano, groceries right around the corner, and a movie theare within walking distance. If you're willing to put up with the management, Highlands of Preston can be a nice place to live.
