Rip-off, BBB complaint filed, terrible management and awful apts

I'm going to skip the details of our stay there (1.5 years) as the most recent reviews cover those quite well. (I'll just say a big DITTO to the renovation quality, the migrant 'contractors' they have working it, and the overall quality and soundness of these buildings.)
I wanted to alert everyone I could of our current situation, and see if anyone else reading this ran into something similar. We agreed to stay past our lease so they wouldn't have to re-rent the place before our building was up for renovation. Part of that agreement was that we wouldn't have to clean it prior to moving out in order to get our deposits, since the place would literally be gutted the day after we moved (we're talking sledgehammers...they rip out carpets and pads, plumbing/toilets, appliances, the works). We followed through on that and did not clean, and left some items (not trash, perfectly valuable items we just couldn't take for various reasons, such as a brand new Swiffer...small items, not furniture or anything) and some trash (bagged up on the patio, and very small items in the apt like paper and broken hangers). They proceeded to deduct $200 from our deposit for 'trash removal'. The stuff we left behind could have been removed by a single able-bodied man in less than an hour, and I highly doubt the 'contractors' they had working this gig were earning $200 an hour.
Mind you, we had verified numerous times in writing and verbally that no cleaning of any sort was required. We have -written- records of this, date/time-stamped e-mails, the works, but they still refuse to meet their '100% guaranteed deposit return' (their words). A complaint is with the Better Business Bureau waiting for a response from HoP, and we're headed to small claims court after that if they still refuse.
In short, BEWARE. The project is way behind schedule and, I'm guessing, way over budget, and I know for a fact they're having a terrible time filling the 'new' apts. I'm guessing that's what's behind this, a desperate grab to save as much money as possible.
AVOID Highlands of Preston at ALL COST. For that matter, avoid United Dominion properties entirely, as they run the show here.

Thank you for confimring my ill feelings about them...I am glad I didn't rent there after all...I had considered it but when I found out I would only be in the apartment for no longer the 6 -9 months and then have to switch to a different appartment, I was thinking I dont think so....when I move I want to be sure I can unpack and stay unpacked until I choose to move again
