I have many things to say about Highwood Apartments. Not many are good. I do have a lovely patio on my second floor apartment. 1. I appreciate the maintainence crew for the most part - even though they don't do windows and mine are so dirty I can barely see out of them. I was told by the manager that it was too hard for them to get on a ladder to clean them....uh...maintainence can't climb a ladder' 2. The office is rarely open and the sign will often say back at a certain time, and they aren't. 3. The speed bumps are terrible - they are HUGE and have already damaged my car, and don't seem keep anyone from speeding in the rest of the apartment complex. 4. There is a pet area, yet many residents prefer to allow their pets to drop big stinking piles poo on the other lawns so be very careful where you walk, and watch out for the big black flies. 5. Dare I mention the obscene amount of feral cats in the area, they keep reproducing and they leave paw-prints on my car - most often when it has been washed. 6. There is no place for children to play, the grass is of course, full of poo so they play in the parking lot - generally unattended and in danger of being hit by a car/truck. The ones who don't play in the parking lot spend their time ringing doorbells and opening doors that don't belong to them. 7. Moving in - the walls were not freshly painted - they still had dirty marks from previous tenant, and the management team at the time promised a fresh paint job, then were replaced by another team which would not paint as we were in the middle of our lease. The current team said it would be painted and the carpets would be cleaned and she would get back to me as to when, 6 months later I am still living with filthy walls and dirty carpets...considering painting myself. I have given up asking and will move as soon as finances allow. 8. The rent is affordable -although I don't understand why after paying a $300 pet deposit (per pet) that I must pay "pet rent". I would assume that my rent covered the entire square footage of the apartment - and if I choose to share the square footage I am already renting should I not be allowed to share that with animals' I did pay a hefty deposit and they automatically keep half - seems like that should be enough. 9. I agree with the previous poster about the new slew of tenants moving in. Definately scrapping the bottom of the barrel. All said the rent is affordable, the noisy and abusive tenant next door has been relocated to another building and my current neighbors are quiet so far. The location is fantastic and the pool is decent.
