I've lived in Highwood for 3 years now. I started in a one-bedroom as a single woman. I felt perfectly safe and never had any issues there. Whenever I called for maintenance, the guy came the same day or at least called me to let me know when he'd be able to come. I always felt respected. The only problem I ever had then was the upstairs neighbors had loud parties late at night. But whenever I called the on-call number, an officer who lives in the complex came within minutes and made them quiet down. They were later evicted because I wasn't the only one who complained about them. None of my concerns/complaints was ever ignored, so I was happy.

After I got married my husband and I moved from the one-bedroom into a two-bedroom. The management let us take an extra day or two to move, which we really appreciated. Our surrounding neighbors in both apartments have always been super nice, and quiet (except the ones that got evicted).

With the upgrades the apartments are really clean and bright and we got to move into one that had ALL NEW fixtures. We loved that. We hardly ever need to call maintenance, but whenever we have, a guy has shown up within a few hours of the call and fixed it immediately. We've been here through several changes of maintenance workers but they've all been really prompt, and kind.

The pest control is really effective and it's been the same guy the whole time I've lived here. He's been really helpful if we have an area where some bugs start coming in, and puts extra treatment there. (And I'm sorry, but you're living in la-la land if you think you can find an apartment in TEXAS that never has a single bug. Dream on!)

The landscaping crew comes a lot. They're always trimming and mowing and raking and blowing debris away. They do a really good job. I've had a lot of people come from out of town to visit and I've never had to feel embarrassed about the grounds. That is really saying something, having lived here 3 years.

There's also a guy who works here who picks up trash on the grounds, so it stays really clean. I wouldn't want his job but I'm glad someone takes care of that.

For us, the ONLY downside to the Highwood apartments is the square footage. They're super cute apartments but since the large patios are included in the square footage (and you can't really keep much out there because of the heat, dust, wind, etc) it's hard to find space for everything.

But the location is IDEAL. We can walk to 3 grocery stores and a ton of restaurants. There are 2 gyms within walking distance (I walk to mine all the time), and a bunch of other fun stores in the Park/Preston shopping area. When people come to visit there's always someplace to go. My husband and I have WALKED to Studio Movie Grill for a date night.

As far as safety, I've walked around alone in the apartment complex at night and it was completely calm and peaceful. It's lit well enough and there aren't any weird people hanging around that make me nervous -- usually I don't even see anyone. It's really quiet here.

Our only reason for moving would be if we found something closer to where my husband works that is just as safe, quiet, well-kept, and affordable. And maybe a little bigger. We've been doing some looking, as our lease is coming up soon, but I don't think we're going to find anything as good that is so affordable.

My last comment is that I don't understand why people gripe about the management so much. I've lived here 3 years and I've never had an issue with any of the managers. We pay our rent on time and just mind our own business and it's fine. They're friendly and we're happy so what's the big deal' We've had a really good experience here so I figured I might as well post it because most people who post only want to complain.

I must be in la-la-land because I live up the street and I have not seen one bug in 4 years!
