My name is Doug and I lived in La Ventura for about 3.5 years. The only reason I moved out was because I took a job in Terrell and I couldn't deal with the 95 mile commute. I also wrote the review dated 11/14/2004. Remember when you read the review here that an unhappy customer tells 10 people, and a happy customer usually tells none. A lot of folks were looking to comlain about something when they found this website!
The management staff has always taken good care of me, even when I was being a tad unreasonable. Always professional in appearance & manner, compared to where I am now.. the office staff wears sweats & wind pants! Keep in mind that the noisey neighbor is also their customer and has to be treated as such, like it or not. The staff are people too, they are as nice to you as you are to them. I constantly got packages shipped to me and they always accepted them & held onto them until I could pick them up.
Parking: Always has been abundant. Sometimes your covered assigned spot may not be the most convenient, it is what it is. Perhaps a visit to the office to politely inquire about a better one that isn't in use may help. If someone is in your assigned spot call the towing company yourself and have them towed, at least they've given you that liberty! I warned a resident once about parking in my covered spot, two days later he did it again and I towed him. He hasn't done it to me, or anyone else, since.
Noise: It happens, some folks are just RUDE! The management staff aren't baby sitters, if the neighbor is a problem call the cops! I wouldn't consider the walls to be thin, in fact I rarely ever heard my neighbors, even the newly wed's downstairs ;-) I was on the south side of the complex and it was always very quiet. I've heard the north side can be noisier, but that's where the larger apts are and most likely to have noisey children.
Crime: I don't recall La Ventura or the address being specifically mentioned on any of the alerts that were distributed, but we get the same home invasion alert every fall & spring when people are leaving patio doors & windows open. I hardly call sliding open a screen door a home invasion! Apartment complexes have vehicle crime, get used to it. I don't blame LV because my car was broken into and the radar detector stolen.
Maintenance: Requsts have always been handled quickly and accurately. I didn't notice any of the delays when painting happened to my building and it was one of the last to get painted. Understand that some folks would complain if you hung them with a new rope! Management has only entered my apt a few times to do yearly inspections & such. Remember, it's their building and they have the right to inspect if they feel like it!
I have enjoyed my time at LV *VERY* much and I'm sorry I had to leave. If life brings me back to the Plano area, LV will be my first stop.
