Great Place Overall

These apartments have aged well, despite being over 10 years old. The property includes 2 pools, a nice workout center with dry sauna, a carwash, a basketball court, and a nice lake in the middle of the property complete with ducks, swans, and a beach. This is one of the quietest properties I have ever lived in; it seems that any loud noise I have ever heard is coming from the residents at the property next door (Reserve at Charles Place). I haven't had any problems with management; I had a couple of minor problems upon move in that were resolved within 12 hours of my call. My neighbors seem very nice, although for the most part people seem to keep to themselves (like at most apartment properties).
BEWARE OF THE WATER BILLS!! My one major complaint with this property is the ridiculous water bills. I pay over $40 monthly for a 2 bed/1 bath apartment. At a previous residence I was paying under $15 monthly for a 2 bed/2 bath. The problem is the property bills you based on total usage for your floorplan (so if the bozo next door runs his sink all night long, you pay), and they include the common area sewer expense on everyone's bill!! This means that my water will be around $15 monthly but my sewer is closer to $25! this is a definite negative; expect to pay $20 to $30 more per month for water at this place than you would pay elsewhere.
Despite what the previous reviewer said about thin walls, we have observed just the opposite. We have a young child who cries occassionally at night; after speaking to all of our neighbors about it, we found that they had never heard a thing!!! Of course, we do occasionally hear the people above us walking around, but that happens even at the nicest properties.
Overall, Lakeshore at Preston is nice, quiet, safe, and affordable. It's a good place to live. My only complaints are the ceilings (circa 1980s popcorn style), plain cabinets, and cheap carpet. In my book, these are all very minor and detract from the property very little. The property is in excellent condition and cannot be beaten for the price. The security gates have been in working order every day since we moved in, and I witnessed or heard of any crime issues. There is a resident crime watch group that meets monthly.
We pay $0.71/SF for our apartment, which is less than many people pay in REALLY bad parts of town (this was an amazing special; it's probably not this inexpensive any more). Don't worry about "questionable" people here though - everyone we've met has been courteous, quiet, and friendly.
