McDermott Place is very similar to other facilities like it.
Thin Walls : are prevalent but not completely paper thin. I sleep in the day time and have only been awoken to the upstairs neighbors going at it 4 or 5 times in the year we have been here. The children screaming outside, while playing, is minimally penetrable by the nice brick exterior. The only bad thing about this apartment is the banging of the upstairs neighbor. It would seem that when they move a chair, the following thump reverberates through your ceiling, if you happen to be lucky enough to be under elephants. I would suppose this could be remedied by living upstairs.
Moldy Smell : happens, like the bumper sticker. But, they do have serious problems with the baseboards in the bathrooms. They seem to caulk up any foreseeable problems. That s completely understandable for them to do, but being in mold remediation prior to my new career, I believe this is a bad sign of something yet to come for these beautiful apartments. Also on the note of the bathroom, I don t know how other apartments do it, but caulking up the toilet seal because the tile guy didn t cut the tile so that the toilet could seat flush on the ring is probably a bad idea. Just an opinion.
Flaky Money : Policies, yes be afraid. It would seem that one persons experience would be totally different to another due to the color of their skin, the number of family members below 10, if you like your dog sunny side up, and other discrimination laws that could possibly be broken. (**Superfluous) It just seems like there s no guiding principal or policy on the pricing of their apartments and fees.
Barbra: is a wonder to deal with. But I have heard from others that they were not impressed with her. I have asked her on multiple occasions about issues I was worried about and she put my mind at ease.
Maintenance: We have had multiple requests for maintenance. Not an extreme amount but a few, and they have always taken care of our issues pleasantly and quickly, well except one thing which only took a phone call and a hurried tone.
$2000 Penalty for breach of contract (Breaking the lease)'!! OMG!!' Do you live on the moon' There are exceptions, read the policy.
Summation: All in all it s a nice apartment compared to others in the DFW area. I am seriously thinking about moving to a house or another place due to hearing through the walls, but it is minimal and not as big a deal for me, our neighbor s only party when I am at work. The Moldy smell of the baseboards has to go though, I guess that is just another excuse to move. But I digress, it would be too much work to leave, and I am striving to be lazy.
