After reading through some of the reviews posted before, I agree with some, but disagree with others. When I moved in around August of 2005, I was extremely impressed with the apartments. I have lived in several apartment complexes in various cities over the past 7 years and did a lot of looking when I was moving to the dallas area. For the price, this apartment was one of the nicer ones that I looked at. The complex was in good shape but the apartment leasing office was only slightly competent.
The management company has since changed and (while I they are a bit disorganized) they seem to be at least trying to get better. I have never had any issue with the maintenance crew. The few times I have needed maintenance work done, my requests were met within 24-48 hours after requesting it. The maintenance workers themselves have always seemed friendly and will smile and wave as you pass them.
I live towards the back of the complex (my apartment backs up to a creek and an open field) and I live off of the first floor. In previous experience, this has helped to keep utility bills lower and alleviate any issues with pests. I consider myself a relatively clean person and, aside from the occasional mosquito that comes into my apartment when the door is open, haven't seen a single bug (or rat). The complex itself is relatively quiet (part of that may come from living towards the back). I've only had a noise complaint against one neighbor, and it turned out that it was his child running and jumping onto the couch). I contacted the office and they addressed the situation promptly.
With the sheer size of the complex, there is always going to be a parking consideration. Personally, I have never had any parking issues, and only occasionally had to walk an extra 15-20 feet. Driving around the complex, you can almost always find parking, just sometimes not as close as some people would like. It is true, however, that the gate does not work sometimes. The gates will be stuck open for as long as a few days at a time. To me, this has never been an issue, because the gates are only "limited access" gates and are relatively easy to get through if you are willing to wait for another car. The parking lots are well lit, and they recently added lighting under all of the covered parking spots. This makes a huge difference at night. There are usually people around and (with the lighting) safety is not a major concern.
All in all, I would still move in here again. While it's not perfect, I don't think any place is. This place has a friendly staff, reasonable prices, and is safe.

Brad, I'm in the middle of moving to Plano from Canada - and am concerned about the other ratings that are posted here about Mission Gate. Even though its only been a couple of weeks since you wrote this review, I'd love to hear more from you so I can make an educated decision. Many Thanks. Danielle.

Hi Danielle,
Sorry the response has taken so long, but I just now saw your comment. I'm not sure if you have already moved, but if not, here's something to keep in mind. Very few times will someone actually write to this site to say something good. Most of the time, people will only add comments to complain. So, you have to take that into consideration. If you still need more information, add a new review to this property (it will send me an e-mail) and I'll respond to it. Good luck on your move (if you haven't already done so). Take care.
