Looks can be deceiving

A year ago, this place was on the news when one of their buildings sank into the ground because of poor drainage. My apartment was on the ground floor, and I got several damp spots in my carpet whenever it rained. I cleaned them many times, but the dark spots just kept coming back. When I moved out, they claimed the seepage in the carpet was my fault, and billed me for hundreds of dollars in carpet damages. In the months before I moved out, I saw lots of carpeting being replaced; probably at the previous owner's expense.
Another problem is their exercise room. The air conditioning doesn't work well. It gets over 90 degrees in there during the summer. They say there's nothing they can do about it.
They allow pets, but the huge pet deposit is NON REFUNDABLE. Be sure to read the fine print, regardless of what they tell you verbally.
If you get noisy neighbors, too bad for you. They won't do anything about noisy neighbors, barking dogs, etc. Note: they allow very large, loud dogs. You can clearly hear the trains blow their whistles every night. My unit was far away from the tracks. I would hate to be a person living in a unit near them.
The place seems to be in a financial bind, perhaps because of the huge cost of fixing the building that sunk into the ground. You should count on having to fight to get any of your deposit back when you leave. Considering the high cost of living there, you should definitely look elsewhere.
