expensive electric

As a single occupant, living in a 1 bedroom apartment approx 900 sq feet my electric bill was 135 [one hundred thirty five dollars]. Note that while I was at work and at sleep my heater was down to 60, approx 18 hours. When I was in the unit the heat was at 68. The electricity cost is 10.5c per kilowatt hr. I did an experiment and kept the heater off for Feb and the bill was 42 [forty two] bucks. That's about right since it is an electric water heater.
Noise from the neighbors is not an issue. I can not hear them, but that may be because I have respectful neighbors. You can hear any conversation when someone is outside and talking at a normal level, cheap insulation to the outside wall and cheap single pane windows seem to be the culprit.
Aside from the expensive electric, I don't really have any problems with the complex. The staff in the front typically arrive late and leave early - only a problem if you have to pick up a package.
The appliances that have been replaced are pretty good - they look nice and work. The dishwasher is cheap and has a problem drying your dishes so after a load you need to dry everything with paper towels to keep hard water stains from appearing on all of your dishes.
Overall, I would recommend this place, but be prepared to pay through the nose for electric - especially if it is more than just one person in the unit.

Manager's Response

From: Manager Date: 03/09/2009
Thank you so much for recommending Somerset. The electric bill for your 1 bedroom seems reasonable, as your test shows that you can heat your entire apartment for around $93/mth in the middle of winter, which is nice. As for your dishwasher, please contact the leasing office if you would like for maintenance to take a look at it, or jet-dry is a great product that is made for just what you are talking about - drying the dishes in the dishwasher. Please remember that the leasing office never minds delivering a package to your apartment if you cannot make it during business hours. Also, I am the manager and I personally arrive to the office at least 30 minutes before we open, and we do not close the office early, so maybe you are not aware that the office hours changed some time ago from 8:30am to 5:30pm and we are now open from 9am to 6pm. These will be our hours throughout the spring and summer, as well. Thank you again for your comments, and please let me know if I can help with anything in the future.
