I moved in in January 2007. At first I noticed ants in my kitchen. They eventually went away on their own. From the day I moved in, I have had to deal with noisy neighbors upstairs. I contacted the residents of the apartment and it got a little better. There explanation for the noise was their child is loud. I put up with this for the first three or four months living at Steeplechase before saying anything. It was an every night occurence of running and stomping. That is when I finally said something. The noise continues to go on every night. So much running and stomping that the walls and blinds shake. In addition, I noticed something in a window sill that looked like dirt. I thought it was due to all the storms we had. Turned out to be wood ants along the window frame. I do have to admit that management eventually took care of this. Over the summer, they decided to do "improvements" to the property. Some of these improvements did include workers entering the apartment. Management did notify the tenants that they would be entering. What I didn't expect was to come home on those days to my apartment being left unlocked. This happened on about three occasions. I know the door was locked because I check it everytime I leave to make sure. Once I reported the problem, it was taken care of. My problem with the door not being locked back is a safety issue. It is common sense to lock a door back once you leave, knowing the tenant isn't home. Oh and then there is the dog poop problem. Twice I walked out my front door to dog poop on the mat outside the door. Of course that isn't management's fault. Just disrespectful people. I do NOT recommend these apartments.

I wrote the above response and I strongly suspect the original review was written by our downstairs neighbor. Mind you, we have bent over backward to accommodate this lady's request that our child be more quiet, even to the point of prohibiting her from playing pretty much at all and especially after 7 p.m. We have also checked with this woman on at least two occasions to be sure the problem had been rectified. She had no complaints at that time. We moved to Steeplechase because that was what we could afford at the time we moved in. Most families with kids who make good money move into homes, so there are LOTS of families with kids concentrated into low-income apartments. There is NO way that I'd move into a low-income apartment if I were a single woman with no children like our downstairs neighbor. Thankfully, we have gotten good jobs now and plan to buy a home and leave post-haste when our lease is up or maybe even before.
During our tenure at Steeplechase, we have managed to put up with the dog poop all over the grass, dogs that bark 24/7 that you can hear all the way across the parking lot, drunks in the parking lot on Fridays/Saturday nights, scary drunk weirdos at the pool such that you can't even take you children there on the weekends, cigarette butts everywhere, weirdos that "stare you down" as you walk into your apartment if you're female, people fixing broken down cars in the parking lots, balconies that smell like ashtrays, etc. We never expected this place to be great, but merely a stop-gap after I graduated college and until we could make more and buy a home. We just keep to ourselves and try to stick it out until moving time. Why can't others mind their own business and do the same? I admit, there is nothing wrong with complaining if you don't like something, but don't expect an upscale, kid-free complex when you quite obviously have chosen not to live in one!
