Just to clarify the mailboxes weren't broken into - it was negligence on the part of the mailman. I have only ever seen the fire department here twice - once when we had the fire and another time when someone was injured. I hear sirens on a daily basis but it's just ambulances rushing to 121 where there are constant car accidents due to traffic. I dont know what goes on on the other side of the complex, I'm in a one bedroom unit - it's quiet in this area because everyone is single or old.
When I first moved in there were some teens playing their bass but cops came by and quickly stopped that. I don't know if those teens moved but i haven't heard any of that since except when they are driving by.
As for the staff they are pretty consistant in TRYING to help with maintenance problems but I found i get more resolved not dealing with the girls in the office but the manager. I've had an ongoing repair issue that I'm still not sure if it's fixed. They keep trying to fix it, it's just frustrating that they couldn't. The community is older but fairly well kept. My cousin lives at Fox Trails up the raod and while she gets more square footage at a cheap rent her community looks rundown and she has ant problems and loud neighbors. My rent is low and I love this area of town. I'm renewing my lease not because I love the place but because I don't hate it, but probably for just another year. I'm fairly satisfied with my experience and because my rent is low it gives me a chance to keep on saving towards a home that I hope to get in the near future. Alot of the newer apartments around this area are at least $100 more than what i'm paying and maybe less square footage or storage space. I guess it all depends on your priorities.
I never feel unsafe here, the area of the complex i live i never see anybody wandering around at night unless they are walking their dog or going to their car. I do have a complain that way too many residents don't pick up after their dogs, it's like a landmine in the grassy areas. If it wasn't for the one maintenance issue i've had i'd be more favorable towards this place. I like my apartment layout a lot, i've got vaulted ceilings and a nice big patio, i'm also lucky in that i don't have the ugly brown carpet or tiled kitchen like i've seen in some units. But my electric bill has been very high during the winter months so i don't know that the insulation is that great.
Overall the places has it's ups and downs like any place, i'm sick of searching for utopia. Unless a place really pisses me off i can stick it out. I'm only recommending this place because i haven't had any serious concerns and it's quiet, but don't expect many amenities you may get with a newer community. Your better off not living by the basketball courts or other areas which might have kids and be noisy. It's good as a starter apartment complex but if you are an experienced apartment dweller you'll probably expect more.
At least it's across the street from kohls.

Thank goodness someone else is done looking for utopia - I live in La Costa and am moving to Summer Meadows in two weeks with my three toddlers. I was nervous after reading some of the reviews here, but from what I've seen, the apartments AREN'T the ghetto at all, and I've seen the ghetto. Also, the staff was so fabulous and helpful in my tough situation with needing to move right away and being new to the single mom thing - it has been trying. I'm excited to move there, and the prices ARE right for those of us who might want a house in the future and need to save the little money we do have. I'm hoping to have a good experience with Summer Meadows, because I simply cannot keep dragging my kids around. And, La Costa is proof to me that higher rent and a garage do NOT make great experiences in apartments. And, crime happens all over - the staff cannot keep it from happening. It is the resident's responsiblity as well to make sure they are safe and their doors are locked. I don't know - thank you for the nice review, though. I needed that sunshine in my rainfilled world right now. God Bless You. Sincerely, Soon-to-be-there |

Good Luck. Even though the carports are well lit, my car was recently broken into along with another. Management should keep tenants abreast of any crime sprees going on, then we can be more on alert knowing crimes have been occuring. It's not a negative thing to hand out a flyer and say "Hey, some apartments or cars have been broken into but here are some safety tips and please watch out for one another." But they don't, I don't think having the cops show up for safety lectures once in awhile is good enough. And they recently had aquired a courtesy patrol but i don't know what they do and have never seen them? Overall I haven't had major issues except my last neighbors were arrested 3 or 4 times and fought constantly. It seems i've had more crazy next door neighbors than the ones downstairs who have been living here a long time. And i'm lucky that for the most part it seems some neighbors look out for one another. I think this place would be a better community IMO if the office staff took a little more time to be more selective in who they let it. My god - they get enough information from you when you move in, everything but your fingerprints. It may be an older community, but They could really do SO much to turn this place around if they had half a mind to. Right now they're giving the outside of the complex a new makeover. I hope they consider that they should do the same in the tenant selection process. It would be a MUCH better place to live. Because I like the location, I like my floorplan (albiet my appliances are old and sometimes pipes and things bang in the walls, everytime someone runs hot water I hear this tapping noise coming from the bathroom wall), the balcony is spacious (although significant foundation problems) and i'm lucky that in my area i don't have a problem with parking. Maybe someday they will begin to upgrade the units. New faucet fixtures would be a nice start since mine are corroded and coming out of the wall in the shower. Lower prices shouldn't mean a lower standard. Rise above. Make the tenants a #1 priority, not the pocketbook. |
