Pretty Good Apartments, Good Price, Few Problems

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
Amenities and Upkeep- My husband and I lived on the third floor of phase 1 for 4 years. The apartment looked nice. It is by no means luxurious, but it is decent and was always in good repair. The maintenance staff was great. They always responded to our issues. The pools were always looking nice, although there was some illegal drug use and beer bonging going on by the frat boys. But for the most part, the pools were great. The one in phase one that used to be the office (which was Starbucks for a while)was always quiet though. I'm not sure that there were enough washers and dryers in phase one. There was always a pile up of people trying to do laundry. I had people take out my clothes while they were washing or drying to put their's in. Of course I always returned the favor. This is not uncommon in apartments though, especially ones populated by spoiled teenaged college kids (not all of the people there were spoiled, many were very nice)who have an odd sense of entitlement.
Pests-We did have a short lived roach problem. We also had 3 rats in our immaculately kept apartment. They chewed through our dishwasher line. As soon as we reported it, they fixed the dishwasher and repaired the hole the rats came through. Also, at one point, there was a cricket infestation and they would drop though one of our AC vents. I put some nylon over the vent and the crickets stopped dropping through. I really wish they would have dealt with that issue. I will say that pest are a part of apartment living. You cannot control the cleanliness of neighbors. If they move, the bugs will come into your apartment no matter where you live.
I think the bad reviews are coming from kids who seem to think that they are entitled to luxury apartments. These are COLLEGE apartments. They are SO much better than most out there. Even the older phase 1 apartments that we lived in were pretty nice. I guess since we were paying our own way and we knew how much really fancy apartments cost, we were happy to have a decent place on school grounds. These apartments were WAY nicer than the ones we moved from with higher rent. In our next apartment, our rent went up $700 a month for one more bedroom!! I think what is lacking in many of these reviews is perspective--the perspective of adults who have experienced apartment life elsewhere and didn't just move in from mom and dad's McMansion.
